Default 1870 Philadelphia Athletic CdV

In last night's session of the Legendary Auction, the 1870 Athletics CdV sold for less than $2000. with the BP. This particular result was almost certainly impacted by the article by Peter Nash on the Hauls of Shame site. This low price is not an isolated incident, though. Once a prized addition to any collection, sale prices have been in the $3-$4 K range in recent years for this CdV, while prices for other baseball CdVs have risen, some substantially. How can this CdV that displays a significant team sell for virtually what an anonymous team would sell for. I'm puzzled.

That is shocking Gary. Although it doesn't have any future HOFers, it was always a prized team CdV that typically sold in the same range as the 1870 Forest Citys or the 1875 Hartfords. But because the latter two do have HOFers, those have skyrocketed while the Philadelphia hasn't. Somebody got a good buy.

Default Al Reach cdv

If y'all are talking about the John Gihon cdv with Al Reach, I had that one written down as the main item I would go after in the first day. I was the high bidder for awhile in the 800's, but was prepared to go to around 3000. I got distracted with the n173's and mostly focused on those in extended bidding and the Gihon sold fairly early early in the extended bidding process so I did not get a chance to bid towards the end. I ended up with the n173 Keefe for 1100, which I thought was a good price for me. There were alot of nice items in that auction last night.

Certainly a steal. I don't find it visually appealing, but the price was so low that I still almost went for it. Wonder if there were two bidders going against each other in OT, or it was just one person - their ceiling bid, if realistic, could have been quite a bit higher.
