Default 52 topps silvera #168

I just bought a collection of 52 topps and 53 topps minor stars and commons and the silvera card is significantly longer. Maybe by as much as 3/16". Any guesses why that would be? Was there a promo sheet or magazine insert it may have been cut from?

Thanks for any input.

Mark

I have never heard of longer, always shorter. Can you post a pic of it beside one of your other regular sized ones?

I don't own that particular card so I can't see for myself, but of all the 52 Topps cards I own, I don't believe any are longer or shorter than each other.

I will try and get a picture tomorrow evening. I handled tons of 1952 and never seen it either. This group has about 100 cards and it is the only one.

The 1952 Silvera was probably on the top row or bottom row of the printing sheet and wasn't cut properly. I'm guessing the extra area is a blank white and doesn't contain part of another card?

It's important to note as we still are debating the sheet lay out

I can't remember my photo bucket account info and it won't let me make a new account. Any suggestions of free photo hosting site?

You don't need a photo hosting site. Just upload it directly from your computer/phone. Click on the little paper clip on the top row of icons.

Nailed it.

Interesting. Thanks for posting it up.

Curious how this would be graded since most are graded, (or most likely not at all graded) as trimmed or short?

It would likely get the qualifier EP - Extra paper

Default Curious?

I notice that some typographical features don't match when the cards are laid next to each other. The red bio placards are different sizes and the fonts are not the same size either - see screen shots. Maybe it's just a printing quirk?
Perhaps one of the several Topps printing experts here could offer an opinion.

Because it is a photo and not a scan camera angle could account for the difference.

I will check them out tomorrow and post if they match or if it's camera perspective.

Really no need to, it is 100% camera perspective. Just look at the bottom card. It alone looks much wider at the top than bottom.

Just to confirm what Ted said ... Silvera was in the last row on the uncut sheet.

So the card probably just has extra paper from the bottom of the sheet.

You don't see these often though.

Cheers,
Patrick
