Default The pop-up ad that won't die

Posted By: Bob Lemke

This is really too much. Every minute or so the "Easy and Affordable" ad pops up. It can't be killed. Anybody know how to get rid of this annoyance. If it doesn't stop, I'm going to stay off this forum.

I have started getting many of these as well. I suspect that the Network 54 software checks periodically to see how many of their pop-ups are still active and adds more as you kill them.

Someone in another thread recommended "pop-up stopper" as a possible solution to these annoying pop-ups. I downloaded the software (free of charge) and haven't had a single pop-up since. The only downfall is that some links are designed to open in another window and this software prevents the link from opening the window. This problem is solved by simply holding down the control key while clicking the link. I've found that it's a great trade-off.

I am working on getting rid of the pop-up ads. In the meantime the software solutions that have been suggested should work fine.

Bud Obermeyer asked me to post the following since he is unable to sign into the forum:

"The pop up ads are a minor annoyance. Worse is that when you enter this site a minimum of FIVE spyware cookies are downloaded and activated on your system tracking and reporting on your internet activity! The 5 spyware sites are gator.com, centerport.net, zedo.com, popuptraffic.com, bfast.com. MORE worse is that spyware from gator.com often wreaks havoc with many operating systems."

I've forwarded this to our CSI people and will report back next week.

go to cnet.com and download Adaware. It is free anti-spyware soft that will deals with spyware. Run it every night since I rarely turn off my computer, but it can be set up to clean your system every time you start up. For you porn surfers out there, this is a must

The last 3 days on this site have been horrific, ads popping up over and over. I downloaded the popup stopper and it didn't make a dent. I have now downloaded the anti-spyware software and hopefully I can at least keep the spying away, even if I have to deal with the stupid popups.

make sure you have a recent browser and that you actually turned on popup stopper. It doesn't start up on default when you first install it.

Popup stopper didn't work with netscape for a long time, but does now.

Your computer power supply blows up, taking with it everything but the hard drive and the monitor. You spend hundreds of hours replacing the dead parts (after you've found out what they are), and hundreds of dollars. You get back on the internet.

No pop ups! See, wasn't that easy?
