Default Todd Benzinger Red Star

I just bought a box of 1990 Donruss at a card show and every pack contained nothing but cards from the Grand Slammers series. I ended up with seven of the Benzinger red star cards and tons of McGuires and Bo Jacksons. Has anyone else had this happen and how rare is the Benzinger error? I can’t seem to find a whole lot of info on the card.

Thanks!

Like everything 1990 Donruss, it's not rare just impossible to find in gem condition.

That is definitely a fact.

As I mentioned in our email exchange, this card started off hot, available infrequently and reached some decent prices initially. But copies started turning up and its value plummeted. There are just far fewer Donruss master set collectors than Topps to generate consistent need for it. I think it sits currently around $30-35.

Thanks everyone!

I figured they weren’t very rare and I was initially shocked to open all those packs and find nothing but the Grand Slammers in every pack. Definitely my oddest experience as a collector.

A standard wax box of packs full of these cello-only inserts is what's truly rare.

BTW, does each player have the same border splatter pattern on front?

Do they all have the black lines in the top and bottom border on back?

They have different patterns and they all do not have the black lines on the back. The McGuires do not have the extra space before his first name. Each pack also contained the standard puzzle piece.
