Default One Cy Young to have in your collection, budget of $2500 - which one and why??

Would love advice on adding Cy Young to my HOF collection - just lost out last night on an E90-1 Young… that is my lead card but since I now have time, wonder what other collectors advice would be.

My general parameters are:

- from his playing days
- prefer as a Boston American/Red Sox (but a bit flexy there)
- rarity does not matter to much to me (ie, rare backs, etc)
- looks like him (so many cards look like anyone other than ol’ Denton!)
- cool look (like the sharp red background on the E-90-1
- low grade is fine but eye appeal and cemeteries matter a lot
- budget is up to $2500

Appreciate visuals of your faves from your collection (or your own Cy Young quest!)

Thx

Jeff

Other than the E90-1 which is a fantastic card, either one of these would be my choice and nice lower grade examples can be found within that price range if you're patient. Good luck!

Here is my pair that I chose!

Agreed with the above, t206 portrait in a 1.5-2 range, they are timeless.

I would go for a card with his most iconic image from earlier days (same as e107 and w600), which is E90-1, t206 portrait or m116.

I put e94, two t206 pitching poses, and t205, after that. Personally, I think the e92 Young cards are super ugly. The e98 is not even him, and e93 has him with a bat. I would not go for these, although they may be most affordable

I agree with most of the above responses.
I don't have one to show but I think the M116 is probably the best value as far as great classic image and price right now.

E90-1 and M116 would be my top 2, hands down.

A couple of years ago, I was roaming through the White Plains Show, and a guy I deal with regularly showed me this... I loved it and had to have it.

I’ve seen that image before… love it. What is the card? It’s hard to see the card name/series

Thx for sharing.

You should see my autocorrect. I do stand-up and some of my corrections take it in a very bad direction. I recently had to email someone named "Cyntia"; u can imagine what my autocorrect made it.

I echo Tony's recommendation. T206 Portrait or T205 would be my choice.

Not a nice as Michael's Hindu. But here is one you don't see often. Wanted to add, that's a fantastic OM Justin. Very nice!

resurrecting this thread in advance of the National.....

I am familiar with T206 prices. However, a friend of mine really wants a Cy Young tobacco card and I am certain that any T206 will be out of budget.

Is it even possible to get a Cy Young tobacco card (1 or A) for under $1200? I am not familiar with anything outside of T206.

Bare hands and gloves shows Auth or 1 should be doable for $1200 or less.

I’ve got the E 90–1 Boston… I love this image! The E 93 is interesting because it depicts him batting… but my next favorite would probably be the green tea 206 portrait

As others have said, T205 is possible, but will be beat up and might be hard to find (June REA had 2 SGC 1.5s - one sold for $1500 the other $1170, a CSG 1 sold on Ebay in early June for $1k). T202 is definitely possible - an SGC 5 sold in June on Ebay for $1400.

If he is referring to "tobacco card" in a general sense (i.e. playing days) rather than technically, a few other options open up. E93, Fan Craze, E101, etc would be options that might be close to that price point but I haven't seen low grade sales of them recently.

Really any Cy from his playing days for under 2k is a great deal. I was able to snag this 1.5 Old Mill for sub-2k. I like this better than the portrait since it's an "action" pose.
