I hope they got good offers....my snipes were set at almost 2k and I probably wouldn't have won them.....They are an uncat W card. The owner of the Just Collect is Leighton Sheldon, and he might read this board. He shares an office with SGC. Nice young guy that probably made a mistake ending these.....regards

So, You've seen these before these auctions? They look like they're drawn from real photos, while the 555s are photos. Needless to say, but my snipe was going to fall way short.

Isn't there quite a bit of risk involved in these? I initially looked at this and thought it was a w555 rip-off/fake. Sure the stock looks old, but for the prices that people were bidding I'd want a bit more assurance that they were truly pre-war. Having never seen anything like this and the ones offered are of the two most popular players of the time is a bit "foundtheseinmygrandpasattic-ish".

If indeed they are real I'd love to hear more about them.

Edited to say - I am in no way questioning the seller...just uncat. cards like this in general.

I have seen these around for several years. They are real and the others I have seen were different players. Had I already had one I wouldn't have bid as high. I don't know much about them but Lew had one in one of his auctions not long ago and I have seen a handful of others. If you are addicted you will see more eventually.....and eventually I will get one..

I remember a guy selling these same cards at the Chantilly, VA show a couple of years back. He didn't have much prewar stuff so it was kind of surprising that he had them. He had the Young, Wagner and a common that he said he sold just before I talked to him (can't remember who it was though). He had no idea what they were and I had never seen them either. I thought they were kind of ugly (still do), but hell if Leon was going to snipe that much I regret not picking them up. I think at that time he was selling them for $900 and $700 for the Wagner and Young respectively. I examined them closely and they were nearly identical to the 555's, but with the different border.

I think they'll start popping up a bit more. I never noticed them until last year.

Looks like a proof card in a way. My snipe was set at 2001.11.. Both Leon and I would have fell short and now we can't even talk about it because we would not have known each other's bid. Ebay is going down hill in my eyes... I would not sell high end items on there right now.. Whoops another topic here.... JC

They are a legitimate issue, Ive seen them for a few years, maybe a total of 10 examples.

They are cataloged on page 536 in the 2007 SCD Catalog.
5 different known, Wagner $7500, Young $6500 NRMT
commons (Carrigan, Leach, Stanage) $2000 NRMT

Pete, I agree these and the W555s are an ugly stepchild. Regardless, they're far more rare than the T206 Johannus and quite possibly a true 1/1. As Robert mentioned, unique poses as well.

I hate to be naive, but maybe the seller's listing actually says the truth. He may have actually ended the auction early because of an error in the listing. He listed these as W555s. Maybe he realized they aren't, and wants to relist them properly to maximize the price.

They are rare, but not as rare as some other issues. In the last 5 years, Ive seen examples of all 5 different known, and 3 different Wagners now.

On these 2, The seller will most likely relist them with the proper ID.

SGC had space available and was willing to allow us to sublease for the past year. It has gone by very quickly, and we will be moving into our own facility in the next couple months that will better accomodate our growing business.

There was a card God on these. The winner of the other card and I spoke and each of us said we would back off the other's preference. I am very surprised I got the Young for that amount. I offered $400-$450 for a common not too long ago and was turned down. I am happier than a pig in Sh** about the outcome of these.....best regards (I know...everyone didn't bid as ya'll knew I needed one)....

The Wagner pose is the same in the Orange border. I have 2 commons from this issue. As Frank stated, it is a legit, uncataloged candy box issue similar to W555. Dan.OOPS! I missed the 2nd auctions! Good for Leon and Greg, bad for Dan.

Thanks Dan! Glad to have won the card. I figured I would not win it despite my snipe of over 3K. Was nice to work with Leon on this one so we did not end up costing each other--it was organized mayhem. I was shocked that both cards went as low as they did.
