I apologize if this doesn't belong here, and I also posted these in the July pick ups, but I have got no response on them, and thought maybe if I put them here I would get a comment. Also, is it wrong to revive an old thread? I mean, this one could theoretically go on for ever, I bet there are always new errors popping up? Anyway, is the one card missing a color, or is it just faded? Either way, I think it is really a cool looking card. Thanks for any comments.

Default T206 Taylor

Is there any miscut, 2 name, or some odd looking on T206 Taylor, Buffalo??

I have over 50 Taylors and I haven't seen anything being imperfect.

Best,
Danny

Not too many oddities in my T206 collection; however, here's a Tolstoi Ed Abbaticchio WST that I enjoy. Even the Factory designation is visible.

Eric P - Here is the twin Abbaticchio to yours. Mine says "factory" below Pittsburg though.

Cards like this should get some love, too, no? Personally, I love them because they are different.

To each their own, of course.

Johnny,

I couldn't agree more.

BTW...my transformation to the Dark Side is nearly complete. I find myself searching the bay (and the BST) for these "misfits" more and more each day.

Guess I am addicted to the outliers of the T206 set. Frankly, I didn't see it coming; however, I do like the oddball cards.

Out of curiosity, are the Piedmont 150 series cards more likely to contain color shifts, print errors, etc? I only ask because you are the resident expert on these matters and I am looking to delve deeper into the "freaks" of T206.

Please let me know. Hope all is well.

Best regards,

Eric

Yes!! That's how it starts....you look for little ones at first....then it only snowballs! regular T206 start to look "strange" and the freaks take on a new beauty....

it's like a treasure hunt.....wait until one day you get a huge haul like a printer scrap

and yes, in the 150 series, there are more probabilities of the freaks from the early learning curve of the printers....

BTW....thanks for the kind words.....you have become a great poster and a great hunter! please email me with any questions on these beauties...

glad to have you in the community and look forward to your posts....

keep looking for that "Frank in the box"

Johnny,

Thank you very much. I appreciate your feedback.

Here's another T206 that I picked up which could be considered a bit of a "freak," due to the color shift.

Hope all is well.

Best regards,

Eric

Would appreciate any insight from the printing experts/error collectors on this one.

Plate/printer issue?

It appears to be printed on the card (@ factory) and has affected the back.

Just found a third fifth example, wonder if something was wrong with a plate on that location for the sheet.

It's very interesting. I wonder if it's some kind of part or something off

Searched 6 years of sales and found the following. Most have some back damage at the bottom of the "hockey stick".

So weird. I would have bet it was after the factory, but with 6 instances, I stand corrected. I'd love to see the back of the orange one. But regardless, I'm stumped.

Scanner didn't pickup that its indented, must have been an issue with the press for a few sheet runs. Orange example was in a binder.

Am I seeing that right? The dent is pushed into the back? Do the others seem dented too?

If so that's the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time. I'll have to do some thinking to figure out how that happened. Do the others seem dented too?

Before you showed the others I figured it was a bit of debris getting dragged across the blanket while light blue was printing. And finally getting ground into the stock. But that wouldn't be recurring and wouldn't dent the back.

Some have a bit of a shadow around them almost like a big fisheye. But that shouldn't cause the back damage.

And a bit of debris on the impression cylinder which would cause the dent shouldn't affect the inking on the front at all.

A piece that damaged the plate ......Ah, that's a possibility. A bad gouge or dent into the plate will hold ink and print. And if that debris damaged the blanket too, it might emboss the card. But that doesn't make sense either. The impression cylinder should be steel. So it wouldn't emboss. towards the front.

The only options that work are so far out there they make no sense. And they'd totally change how T206 production is viewed if there's any evidence of it. I'll have to really start looking into the presses Hoe made for lithography.

Fascinating card in a lot of ways.

Default Feeling blue?

After browsing this thread over the last few days, I got the "fever" and then found this nugget that ended tonite on the bay. All for the price of a night out at the movies!

Not only is it a cool oddity but its of one of the original "firemen": "Doc" Crandall who also pitched alongside "Matty".

Cool stuff.

Peace, Mike

PS Could someone tell me the correct term for this anomaly: Off set print? Print shift? etc.... please advise, thanks, mike

Color shift works as well as any description.

The technical term is misegistration.

Stick with color shift.

And that's a nice one, that much displacement isn't common.
