Default Collectors of a certain card? How many?

I was looking through some old pictures and saw my Lumley run and this got me wondering if anyone collects/ hoards one player. At one time I had 30ish Lumleys which I'm sure is Little League level. Who amongst you has a big number of one player?

Not T206s or vintage but I have hoarded several different cards. I have owned over 1000 89 Fleer Bill Ripken error cards and just as many of the 89 Fleer Randy Johnson errors. I am also currently hoarding 2 different Wanderlei Silva MMA cards and own around half of the print run of each card. I have also hoarded a couple of the Wade Boggs errors.

I have about 6-7 1953 topps Campanella's because its my favorite card.
I even have a really rough one in a thick screw-down so it stands on my desk at the office.

I'm waiting for JD and his plethora of Larry's. Only two poses but I bet he's got every variation which is quite impressive for OJs.

I know someone that has/had a load of a single T206 player. We discussed it and figured it'd be pretty difficult to buy enough of a single common player to influence the overall T206 market.

For myself, I don't have a large quantity of any single player unless you count 80s and 90s crap.

I have a few more Dots Millers (maybe 35ish), but it would take a bunch of scans to show them, and I don't have scans of some just because they are T206s with different backs. Here's a display with some of them. I thought I took an updated photo of the display with four more cards, but I can't find it

That's great, John. I think you might have missed one but maybe not.

I don't hoard any particular player but I am one of those"back" collectors...
Even in low grade, they are all good!

This is hand cut / gnawed on.

and I also like Dots, but don't hoard him.

John, you know I can never get tired at looking at all the Larry's. You could post it everyday and I'd get a charge out of it. Thank you for posting!

I probably have 40-50 T206 Beaumonts. I grew up in Burlington, WI and played a lot of ball on the field downtown named after him. Still missing OM and Hindu though….

As many/most Net54ers are aware, I'm working on a master collection of Sam Rice cards. I currently have 70 different pre-War cards +1 on its way to me. Thanks to those of you that have helped me with this quest. Here are a few of my favorites:

If we're talking about hoarding just a single card from a single issue, then that's one thing. If we're just talking about hoarding a single player across multiple issues, then I suspect there's a lot of us player collectors who have a fat stack.

Looking at my master set registries, I have a pretty solid stack of unique pieces for a few players:

Mays: 349

https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...shedset/290520

McCovey: 211

https://www.psacard.com/psasetregist...shedset/333139

Marichal: 103

This is insane (almost quite literally), and I mean that as a compliment.

I am working on a number of back runs, so I have the many of the same fronts, but all with different backs. I really don’t consider those “the same card”. Historically, I have tried to hoard two cards - e104-2 Wagner and 1916 Zeenut Claxton. Did very well with the Wagners (only own one now but should have kept them). Not so great with the Claxtons, and I still own two.

It didn't start as hoarding. I bought one as my second Old Judge card (Joe Mulvey was first). I had no clue how rare Old Judge cards were at the time, so literally in the first hour I was ever on Ebay, one was ending within 20-30 minutes. I thought it was nearly impossible to get two OJ cards of the same player and it was cheap, so I bought it. Then I just decided to go for all six variations once I had a better idea of the set.

I got stuck on five variations, then decided to buy a double to trade if one came up. Then a nicer double came up, then a really nice one, then a second London one (he has two London cards). So once I finally finished all six variations, I was only one pose short of two variation sets. I then did the same thing with doubles again until I finally just admitted to myself that I was buying them all (I only passed on 2-3 early on). Then I bought all of the next 25 or so before getting outbid on one.

So basically, If I found the London hands at shoulder pose a lot sooner, I would have finished with six total. I have proof that I can stop at six cards of the same player. I got my last Jocko Fields card around ten years ago. I got my last Tom Reilly card at least 13 years ago

Well, I don't want to brag too much, but I happen to own the entire run of PSA graded 1997 Finest Brian McRae base + refractor...including all off of the PSA 10s.

There's 1 graded, it's a 10. I own it.

For my post-war brethren, I have a quintet of these wickedly tough to find career contemporary cards, 1967 Laughlin World Series - With Address - #61 Mickey Mantle...

There are a few cards that I have multiple copies of, but not many. I have a few Jackie Robinson 1948 Leafs, a handful of 53 Topps Jackie Robinsons, 56 Clementes, and Koufax RCs. I have two copies of a lot of cards, but that's usually because I found an upgrade and intend to resell the other. But hoarding dozens or hundreds of the same card isn't something that appeals to me.

I am trying for a mid size back run with the Jennings One Hand - currently 6 different so far.

But I also like building modern rainbows, and have likely the best 2021 Topps José Ramirez of anyone. Currently at 80 different of the Topps Flagship and other Topps sets using the same photo/design. Just picked up my 3rd 1/1, and have all but 1 of the /5.

1954 NY Journal-American Johnny Antonelli.

Not a particularly desirable set and I am not a collector of this card specifically, but have an Antonelli collection and this card isn't particularly abundant, so I usually bid if it is affordable.

I also have 3 copies of the regionally issued 1994 Nabisco All-Star Legends Paul Blair. I had a fourth but traded it to a board member for a 1976 English Chicken bucket lid of Blair. Single copies of this card only become available every 3 to 5 years. So, when they do, they usually go for over $100.

3 and 6 aren't exactly large numbers, but given the rarity of the cards appearances on the open market, I consider myself lucky to have as many copies as I do.

Here’s my Klein rookie run…these are different tints so not really hoarding like some others we’ve seen here…but others may disagree.

That is so modern. "I have 3 of the 1/1".

It's only hoarding when Jolly Elm does it.

That is an amazing Jose Ramirez collection. Any idea how many 1/1s and total number of "different" versions there are with the same photo/design?

I have 6 or 7 T204 Harry Lord cards, including his own personal card from an auction in Maine. At some point I thought it would be funny to have "12 Lords a Leaping".
