Default Anybody see the Bib front Jersey cabinets on Ebay?

Spectacular images. I made an offer but was blown out of the water. Sale price was $750

The guy holding the ball is almost like a cartoon character, crazy socks, multi colored hat, strange looking belt. Very interesting and cool.

Very early, according to Marks antiquebaseballuniforms Website they are some of the first Jerseys ever. 1860s-1880s

Totally missed those! And what makes it worse is that based on the measurements given (2-1/2 X 4-1/4) those are actually cdvs and not cabinets (which are generally a bit rarer than cabinets from that era). That's what happens when you don't put the words "cabinet" or "cdv" in the description and it's lumped in with 174K items under Vintage Sports Memorabilia > Photos ...the item sells for 5-10% of what it is worth [based on the listed price of $40 not the stated $750]. Somebody got a steal!

Wow, you're right. I didn't even realize. Just assumed based on their look. I know it's in the title (stupid me lol)

Wait...$750 is pretty much on target...I didn't read your full message I just clicked on the link and it said it was sold for $40...which is why I said it sold for 5-10% of its value.

Default 1860s BASEBALL CDVs BIB FRONT "STAR" AND "C"

Hey Guys,
I won the 2 baseball CDVs on eBay... Here are a couple of better pics. The "Star" bib was photographed by P.W. Taft, Bellow Falls, VT and has W. Blake written in quill pen at the very top back of the card. The "C" has C.B.B.C. on the baseball bat.... Could this be an early Cincinnati Base Ball Club??? Red Stockings???

Those are great! Did you pay $40 for these? People are saying $750 but the ebay link shared above says $40...

Having the reverse of the mounts colored is quite unusual.

I agree...I checked my cdvs and only two have any coloring and it is more of a tinting used as a backdrop for the studio info rather than a solid color.

As for the C, the Red Stockings one was more stylized (not sure if "Old English" would be the style name). Without a studio address or other geographical hints, this could be a team from any place starting with a C.

My first question was, did Vermont even have baseball teams in the late 1860s/1870s? And it turns out it had at least 100:
https://protoball.org/VT

And it turns out that a few of them were named the "Star Club." I'll nominate the White Star Club of Saxtons River as a likely candidate.

And it turns out that there were a lot of "Star Clubs" in that era? Someone here will know more about baseball team names of the period. I see that one of Brooklyn's early teams was the Star club.

+1 And I didn't see the print on the backs in the photos on ebay either. It might have been there but I didn't see it. It wouldn't have made a difference. I forgot to track the auction.

I just want to note that hardly all CDV's used the 'standard'. It is not particularly rare to find CDV's that are not on a cream colored stock, but use a different colored stock.

Here are a bunch of authentic and worthless ones ($1-$5 values) that I own as an example of this.

What is unusual is that the backs are colored and the fronts are not. This is not necessarily a negative, just unusual.
