Default Autographed Mantle New Era Hat

Any ideas about the autograph on this New Era hat from the late 80s?

Have a bad feeling since the other autographed items are clearly Operation Bullpen items, but thought I'd get a second opinion.

Some of the more finesse characteristics I'm used to looking at don't really pop out with felt marker on wool.

Thanks!

I would not be so quick to dismiss it. My one big tell is there.

Dammit. I need to find more tells. I don't look for Mantles so I haven't seen so so many of them, but I hadn't seen a forgery with that tell.

Crap.

Thank you, Andrew...

The thing about learning autographs (and I am far from perfect) is to always use your "eye" to observe and view the autograph as a whole.

The easiest item to forge is anything wool. It does not show just how slow the signature is plus it spreads the ink so that it covers up some of the mistakes you would see on a ball.
This was so bad that wool or not it was easy to spot.

Yeah, I get it. The squished look I figured was due to the slightly unusual cap being the media and thus maybe not quite the same "look". I need to stop "figuring" though. A couple of times now I have given the benefit of the doubt for one reason or another. I need to trust my eyes more. I can see the problems but have said "maybe it's the media".
