Default T213 Coupons....

Having just finished a tiny trifecta with these red Cobby's lets see some T213s if you have them!! Special thanks to Kevin Struss for working out a deal with me for the type 2, to finish them. After missing the one in the last REA I patiently wanted to get it crossed off my list ....but to find a nice one is kind of tough.

Default T213

Leon, I just noticed something different about the type 3 T213 I posted. On mine the factory information is right under the Collect Them with a line under the information. On yours and on all ones I looked at on ebay the information is about a quarter inch lower and under the line. What do you think?

Last edited by kdixon; 10-07-2012 at 08:48 PM. Reason: Forgot to list the 3 under type of T213.

A rarer overprint example.

"In some rare instances, this typography was “blacked out” by a bold black “OVERPRINT”, with a revised FACTORY No.8 DIST OF LA.” label printed directly above the black overprint. These “overprint” scarce subjects are virtually non-existent with advanced tobacco collectors actively seeking the few that do exist."

Default T213 Wheat

Chris, thanks so much for that information. I had never paid much attention to the card until I compared it to Leons type 3. I looked at all 83 T213 type 3 listed on ebay and the 5 in the completed section and didnt find another one like mine. This board is great for answering questions and I really appreciate it.

Default Overprint

Hi Kenny, your Type 3 overprint is quite a card. That has to be one of the toughest cards from a tough set. I noticed that the back of your card is OC top to bottom, as is the example in the Standard Catalog and also the example in Lew Lipset's book.

The overprints are very tough and do add a little premium to them, in my experience.

I just scored the T213 Walter Johnson (Type 2) with a double name (barely) printed at the top (Nap Lajoie) at the Brockelman & Luckey Auction. Don't have it in yet but here is a pic...

Hey Val

Really great looking Johnson.

Hey guys, here's a challenge that you will find quite interesting....try putting together a 4-card sub-set of any of the 16 - Southern Association players
in the 1910 COUPON set that were printed with these four T-brand backs. Pick your favorite guy(s).....mine is Ted Breitenstein.

"virtually non-existent"? No.
Much scarcer and tougher to find? Yes.
My T213-3 set had 12 overprinted factory backs including McGraw, Cobb, Bender, etc. with the rest the regular factory backs. All came from the same source.

Nice cards, Peter.

Y'all may have already gone over this, but by my count there are 19 subjects that have all three Coupon series backs. The 6 superprints and Byrne, Donovan, Doolan, Dubuc, Dunn, Huggins port and hm, Mowrey, Paskert, Jeff Sweeney, and Thomas. I do not have Gabby Street(so i don't know the Street variation in series 1 which comes in port and fielding in series 2 and 3)... edit to add Myers fielding

Default Hi Ted

Hi Ted, I have been watching for one of these for the past couple of years but I haven't seen any on ebay. This is a T82 - Series of Movie Stars. Part of a 50 card set made somewhere between 1915 and 1920.

Thanks for posting it.

As you know, the T82 (RECRUIT tobacco) Movie stars are fairly easy to find. But, their COUPON tobacco counterparts are tough.

The George Beban card is the only one I have, and is my type card.

Best regards,

One covers the life and baseball career of Dots Miller, who was mentored by Honus Wagner as a rookie for the 1909 Pirates, then became a mentor for a young Rogers Hornsby. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CV633PNT The other has 13 short stories of players who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the regular season, but never played in a game for the team https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CY574YNS
