I turned down a chance to buy a Goudey Ruth about 13 years ago at a local coin shop for a very good price. After changing my mind that night, I returned the next day only to find it sold. It was the only Ruth I'd ever seen in person, and I had been kicking myself ever since. I stopped collecting cards for many years, but never stopped thinking of that Ruth. I finally got my first Ruth. I pick it up at the post office tomorrow and can hardly wait.

Thanks for all the Lajoie compliments. I knew I was getting a nice card, but the thing that really jumped out at me was the nice borders. The Sepia postcards are a cool set with great images, but often they are miscut or OC too much. Tyler, I must say that "Maddy" is beautiful, & the nicest pickup of all. Mikr, congrats on your first Ruth. I remember mine, & I was crazy excited. Sincerley, Paul

Thanks Jeff... so many people collect T206s (as i do) but many consider their sets complete without the big 4 - this Magee/Magie error being one of them.

So when I had the chance to own one of the cards that most never get into their sets... I just had to pull the trigger.

Looking at the PSA registry... most of the top 10 sets need 6 cards or less... this being one of them!

hennessey,

the price was steep.. but the cuff links wouldn't have been worth much to me unless i changed my name to match the initials.

when a card like this comes along... price doesn't matter. its like the wagner and other rarities... it seems as though every time they are offered, they sell for a new high almost every time.

Phil, glad you see you picked up that W600; amazing that the damage misses the important parts of the image.

Joe, for sure. I'm sure Herman was a bit disappointed with the content of the message from his friend. Kind of sparse.

Delivered a few minutes ago. (Wife wondered what I got that needed thirty five bucks postage).

Gee, only ten cents!

How many of you guys have seen Oakes's T205 slabbed as "Rehel"? That's how his sig reads but you'd hope the graders would do a bit more homework.

Do you call 'em Zednuts in Canada?

I just noticed -- Eric, you started this thread gushing about your Magie pickup like a week ago -- and it's already on ebay??? You don't have ADD by any chance, do you?

How do you figure? By not showing the back damage on the ebay listing?

Actually I'm adding a scan of the back right now... and yes I am in love with this card and the rarity it has.

I've listed it at a ridiculous price as I'd like to hold on to it... but if someone needs it bad enough... I'll let it go for the right amount... and then apply that money towards a PLANK !!!

Jeff, why' do you care if the magie is on ebay, what business is it of yours??? And Eric why would you feel the need to explain yourself?

Brad, seeing the Magie on ebay without the massive back damage struck me the wrong way.

Well the back scan is there now... so Jeff will feel better.

I simply didn't put the back scan because I just don't expect to get any interest regardless at the price I listed the card for.

As for explaining myself... I'll take every chance I can get to say how happy I am to own this card. I love talking about it. The only card I've wanted more is a T206 Plank.

If this card will help me get to the goal of owning the Plank by selling at my price, then I'll be thrilled. If nobody wants to pay my price, I'll be more than overjoyed to just hold it as long as I can.

The last two Magie's that went up on eBay that were in the same shape couldn’t even break double digits and did not sell, so 20k is going to be a real long shot. For 20k you're looking at VG or nicer on that card IMO.

In fact one very nice looking one with no back damage had a BIN of 10.5k and was listed 2 times and never sold.

"but if someone needs it bad enough... I'll let it go for the right amount... and then apply that money towards a PLANK !!!"

Playing devil’s advocate here but the person who would need a Magie “bad enough” wouldn’t it be safe to say that this person would have a rough grasp of pricing on a card at this level, and understand what rough prices this card commands in various conditions…

But with that said good luck with the sale……

Cat can I at least cater the funeral? Yeah I was pretty rough huh? LOL

But with that said, if this plan works I'm going to be selling quite of few of my cards at super high prices to buy me a Plank too! Perhaps we will have another whale sighting?
