Default What projects are you working on completing?

Just for fun I thought it would be nice to talk a little bit about the projects we're working on. I wish I had photos, but I'm still working on completing two neat team / era focused baseballs.

The first is a Braves ball. I've got Glavine, Jones and Smoltz already. Now I'm trying to track down Maddux and Cox to finish it off. Neither of them seem to do any shows.

The other ball I'm working on is a Core Four baseball. Years ago I was lucky enough to be at Yankees spring training and was able to get Jeter, Torre, Posada, and Rivera all in the same day on the same ball. Ever since I've been painfully ignored by Petitte and now he's retired so I'm waiting on him to do a show too. On the positive side, I have paid $0 on the ball so far.

*caveat. In my infinite wisdom earlier that day I got Jason Giambi to also sign the baseball before I knew I'd get the others. So unfortunately my core four ball will also feature Giambi.

Pettitte has a private signing with Steiner on Saturday...

For Maddux and Cox you can try Bob Presley Sports in Marietta, GA. Bob has been promoting shows in the Atlanta area for over 20 years, and also has a store. He has great connections with past and present Braves players, and still does shows and occasional private signings.
He would be my first choice for those items.
You could also try Creative Sports Enterprises in Palm Harbor, FL. He does a lot of nationally popular retired and current players.
Lastly Radtke Sports in Buford , GA. He also does a lot of private signings with past and current Braves.
Hope this helps.

My main project that I have been working on for several years (started around 1990 but then took 10+ year break on it while in college) is a signed 1957 baseball set. So far I have 314 out of the 407 cards signed. Of the 314, 182 are deceased. I have 51 different Hall of Fame signed cards (including two Ford Frick winners). The only two HOFers that I am missing are Clemente and Campanella. Back in the early 1990's Campanella was signing with the assistance of a machine, anyway I sent my card into the show to get signed ($250 I believe was the fee) but unfortunately he passed away right before the signing. Most of the team cards are signed by a Hall of Famer, Stan Musial and Harmon Killebrew didn't have cards in the set so I got them on their team cards as example.

I also just started a 1995 Mariner piece. Only have Griffey, Buhner and Wilson on it thus a long way to go.

Maddux is an exclusive with Lojo Sports (http://www.lojosports.com). Here is their prices from their last signing with him on 6/28

Cards - $125
Balls / Flats up to 16x20 - $160
Flats over 16x20 / caps, cleats, gloves - $225
Jerseys - $275
Inscriptions - $50

I send some USA Baseball items in to get signed at a show in Chicago in 1988, anyway the promoter screwed up and didn't get my items signed and sent me a bunch of extra stuff from that show to make up for it...one of the items he sent me was a signed 1987 Fleer Update signed by Greg Maddox. Ended up on the positive on that deal.

Wow thank you too for the Maddux help.

I don't think I have enough time to get my ball to Steiner for Pettitte this weekend but it also looks like they do regular signings. Next time for me.

Don't worry, I'm sure CCA will have some of the ones you're missing coming up soon, but you really might have to wait a while to find a Feller. Even CCA never seems to have him

Klrdds seems to have the highest count on the board, and I want to say he is in the 290 range which, honestly, may be higher than Cooperstown. Without spending a decent amount of time looking things up, I would say 10? additional members are in the 220-240 range. I know of some other collectors that are above 250, but they never show their face here

I would say there are 10-20? HOFer autographs that simply do not exist in the open market (Hill, Grant, Torriente) or only 1-5 examples exist and are in collections that will never become available (Joss, Thompson, Waddell). That being said, you could probably acquire over 200 of them without spending more than $500 on any one individual signature. However, once you go over a certain point, things go up exponentially.

PSA/DNA actually has a HOF Rarity index here:
http://www.psacard.com/dnasetregistr...tion.aspx?c=37

I agree with most of it, except Jesse Burkett and Barney Dreyfuss-I think they should be switched (Dreyfuss is an Extreme rarity by them and Burkett is a 9)

I collect baseball snapshot of HOF players and managers ...then I'll slowly collect Negro,Executives etc...

211 players 22 managers.

I have 81/233 that are unique in about 1.5 years of collection them. Only at 35% done!...with just players & managers, lol

I prefer them to be signed, but I'll slowly replacing them as I go along.

I'm not specifically building a collection of them, but I'll buy a 3x5 any chance I get. It is nice to be able to acquire someone from that era. I generally collect pre-1960.

I am still committed to getting 100 HOF signatures on this poster, but don't want to send it out too many times, Of course, there's always the cost to consider with today's appearence fees.

Default HOF numbers

I know some of us have posted how many HOFers we have and I am up to 245 as stated earlier.
What I am more interested in is how many different HOFers people have on baseball cards. This doesn't include exhibits but BB cards including regular issues, callahans, etc
I have 204 different HOFers on cards and hopefully 2 more on the way.

I have a few I'm working on. My main one is the Perez Steele HOF post cards. I'm down to 19 but, I don't think I will be able to afford the Paige. Trying to get the 80-1 to 89-90 O-Pee-Chee, 64-5 Parkhurst (came out in 94 and down to 8) hockey, 53 Topps Archive and a few other sets autographed. Also trying to get as many hockey, baseball, football & basketball HOF autos as I can.

Unfortunately true, but any HOF who was associated with MLB prior to this reunion fits the theme, including:

Bobby Cox
Doug Harvey
Joe Torre
Pat Gillick
Tom Lasorda
Tony LaRussa
Whitey Herzog

The full list of HOFers who could have signed, but didn't (died after Mar 4, 1990):

Bill Dickey
Bowie Kuhn
Cool Papa Bell
Dick Williams
Joe Sewell
Lee MacPhail
Leo Durocher
Leon Day
Richie Ashburn
Ron Santo
Tony Gwynn

The signed poster is a neat project. How long have you been working on it ?
Or did you get it partially started?
I ask only because I am curious since you have Drysdale, Mantle, Stargell etc...on it.including Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Campanella all long deceased.

This was purchased in 2012 with it already signed. The intent has always been to continue with the theme.

I recently finished tracking down signed cards from all the players, managers, and umpires from the very first game my dad took me to - July 10, 1983, Indians at the Twins.

I am now looking for a nice way to have the cards mounted and framed along with the box score and ticket stubs. And maybe a picture of the Metrodome. Unfortunately, no picture was taken of the two of us that day but possibly I could find one suitable for use.

Does anyone have any ideas or links you could point me to for ideas on how to go about this? I'd like to give it to my dad for Christmas if I can get it done.
