Default '70s Unopened Rack Pack Question

As I have gotten more into unopened, specifically picking up the '70s stuff, I have noticed and wondered about the plastic wrapping of the '70s rack packs.

Please note I am not questioning the legitimacy of any of the packs I am showing as examples, only using them as examples of the different plastic for purposes of illustrating my question.

For example:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-TOPPS-B...wAAOSwBj5Zxnvv

This pack is as I remember from the untold number I bought as a kid. The plastic is a thicker plastic, and was a pain to open, and you can see some aging which seems normal to me. Note the 'shrinking', for lack of a better term at the top and bottom of each card section, sort of an inward scallop shape of the plastic.

This one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-TOPPS-B...MAAOSwAVxZxn6z

Obviously this is from three years later, but you can see the difference in the plastic wrap. I have noticed the same thing with football rack packs as well.

Does anyone have any knowledge regarding the difference in plastic used in the rack packs? Did they change their grade/type of plastic wrap used at a certain point and if so, when?

Any input would be appreciated? Thanks.

Rob

Approaching the century mark of looks with no thoughts. Kind of surprised, figured someone might have some info or thoughts. Oh well, maybe someone at some point.

Wish I could help you, however, I know absolutely squat about unopened material except that most of the time once you open it loses most of it's value. Yesterday seemed slow on the posts(most Saturdays this time of year are).....there do not seem to be a lot of conversations on this part of the board about unopened material, so it may take a little longer for someone who is knowledgeable to provide some thoughts.

Agree with John.. if I had a 70s unopened Q I would take it to Grote15 on PSA/CU board. You can pm him there or start thread. Free to join if you are not member.

Just don't have any sense of humor or make any stray remark. You can be banned for the slightest incidents there.

I'm pretty low key, but definitely good to know, thanks.

The ‘77 pack looks suspicious to me. I’m not an expert but I’ve heard there are a lot of fakes out there so I’d be carful.

Yes sir, that's the deal on this stuff. Though I am not specifically questioning that pack as it may be that is how the plastic was at the point and I just don't know for sure, that is basically the basis of my question regarding the plastic. Since I bought so many as a kid, it would be nice to be able to touch them and buy them in person but there only seems to be one place where you can really do that.
