We've done something similar in the past. However, I thought it would be fun to see what and who everyone collects or wants to collect. If anything, it might be helpful for trading or finding stuff folks need for sets.

still plugging away on the player set. For those that don't know what I am talking about, I am trying to get one card of every major leaguer that appeared on a card fro 1908-45. I originally included minor league cards, but becuase of monitoary contraints, I have eliminated them, so the player as to appear on the card as a major leaguer. This helped eliminate t209s, t210s, Tarzan Bread and other rare or tough cards.

Within the player set I am working on the Delong set. I prefer Colgans over other cards of players and am also working on type cards of various sets and have already knocked out some tough sets.

Last year there was a fistfight between fans and players at a professional basketball game. Not to be outdone, the National Hockey League has announced that not only will several fans be beaten every period, but one lucky fan each game will be run over by the Zamboni.

I recently began a type set that is composed of players from the Braves franchise - one card of every set that included Boston NL, Milwaukee, and Atlanta players. No real criteria for the cards themselves other than that they be appealing to me.

I started collecting cards of every player that had a chapter in Ritter's book "The Glory of Their Times", my favorite baseball book. Once that was complete I am now trying to collect one of every player or person in the index. It's gotten pretty tough. There are a lot of people listed, some don't have cards. It allows me to get away from focusing solely on pre-war cards. Maybe someone else is doing this, if you are I would be interested in your progress.

I thought Tarzan Bread was Braves minor league affiliat? I'm not real familiar with the issue other than it's really rare.

Cool thread. I'm sure it's been done here many times before, but it helps those of us that are new to the forum.

My primary goals right now are to collect one card from every member of the Hall of Fame, and to collect one complete set from every year the Yankees won the World Series.

For the Yankee run, here's what I've been working on lately:

1938 Goudey - set complete in PSA holders, now I'm in upgrade mode
1934-36 Diamond Stars (I'm cheating and using this set for 1936) - set about 30% done in SGC holders

This weekend, I started three more:

1939 Goudey R303s (A, B, and C)
1961 Fleer baseball
T205 - not from a Yankee year, but I can't resist these cards anymore.

-Al

I first satisfied my nostalgic side - basically Reggie Jackson in the 1977 World Series and Nolan Ryan. I have a couple post-1980's modern issues of Roger Clemens and Michael Jordan, but those are exceptions. And a few "shiny pennies" of Johan Santana. Okay, they may not be pre-war vintage, but I do/did enjoy watching them play. At least I am done with this phase of my collection.

I am currently working on a 1909-11 T-206 Cardinals team set in affordable grading (VG to EX, w/o the O'Hara - I can't afford it in any condition). I also collect pre-war horse racing tobacco issues. Someday I hope to advance to N172s and N175s.

I pretty much stick to Jimmie Foxx items. Anything to do with him. As far as I can determine, I am only missing one publication where he appeared on the cover. But we all know how that goes.....another will pop up somewhere. I have only four more cards to go and I will have what I believe to be the vast majority of them. Graded appropriately to suit the rareness. Another words, a PSA grade 8 Diamond Star, but yet a grade 4 Buttercream is acceptable.etc. etc. I am missing only one pin. I believe. I have about 50 original photos and wire photos. That search will never end. I have four of his autographs, including a letter he wrote to a fan. I also like Buck Weaver and Hack Wilson. Some Mantle. Some Gehrig. I own his personal health club pass, that came out of the Gehrig family auction of 2000. So...the beat goes on. I have the collection malady. Glad there is no cure.

Do have complete sets of Topps from 1972-2005 (Thanks, mom, for not throwing those out in the mid 70s)

Also autographed baseballs, but only of players I have met.

Gentelmen: very interesting collections.

I am afraid that i collect less serious, and less interesting stuff. My collection consists of trivia. As such, I seek players who have accomplished comparitively little, but through unique performance or circumstance, at one point in time achieved relative greatness.

For example, other than Mathewson, in the twentieth century, there are two pitchers who finished a season with more wins than walks given up. Slim Sallee and Bret Saberhagen.

These two individuals are in my Gil of Fame. I organize this collection by year. So for some years there are multiple players who have different levels of achievements.

The real answer is that I collect too much but lately I have been building a pre-1919 type collection and, where possible, making it a type card of a Philadelphia player from any league.

Default What do you collect?

Posted By: Scot Reader (ebay: sreader3)

T206 in PSA 4 or better preferably rare backs. Just started W514 but might abandon that effort. Thinking about starting '33 Goudey and either '52 Topps or '55 Bowman (love those old wood TV consoles).

Charlie, What is the T206 "niche" set? Is it portraits only?
