Default 1910 Pirates Postcard / Voskamp's

Posted By: Tim Newcomb

The recent mention of Voskamp's Coffee cards got me thinking about some cards, or more precisely pieces of an expandable postcard, that I picked up a while ago.

The size and design are not identical but similar. Poses are more varied than the Voskamp "hands behind back" norm.

Judging from the uniforms, the postcard set is from 1908-09 (Voskamp's from 1912).

Just wondering if anyone else had seen any of these, or has any thoughts about a possible relationship between the two sets.

Thanks,
Tim

A Voskamp scan for comparison:

Default 1910 Pirates Postcard / Voskamp's

I highly doubt there is a relationship between the two besides similar looks. I'm sure Voskamp's would have included their name somehow into the cards. They are neat though and just like in the Voskamp's issue, the all white background really makes the player's images pop off the card.

Besides the baseball issues, Voskamp's did produce one other issue that i'm aware of. It was a non-sport issue with 48 cards in the set. Each one depicted how mail was delievered in a different country. You can also find these same fronts with different backs, Voskamp's being one of them. I've found these to be extremely difficult to find, almost on par with the baseball except much less desirable.

"How mail is delivered"

At one time baseball was as trivial as that subject seems, as well as in competition with subjects such as avians of north america, world's dudes, etc.
