Default 1887 International League Schedule- Couple of questions

Posted By: Adam Baxter

Anyone have any info about this league?

Is memorabilia from the IL tough to come by? (I've never seen anything from this league before)

I know that there are a couple of players in N172 Old Judge that are from the league's Hamilton and Rochester teams. Blair, Hamiltons is one player that comes to mind, but I can't remember the others.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Default 1887 International League Schedule- Couple of questions

The International League was a minor league comparable in size and importance to the Pacific Coast League or the Southern Leagues. Many future stars played in the International League, including Jackie Robinson (Montreal Royals) and Babe Ruth (Providence Grays). Several T206 players are International Leaguers.

19th century IL stuff will be hard to come by.

Default 1887 International League Schedule- Couple of questions

I also found some info on Wikipedia:

The International League (IL) is a minor league baseball league which operates in the eastern United States and Canada. Like the Pacific Coast League, it plays at the Triple-A level, which is one step below Major League Baseball. The league was created from the mergers of member teams from three precursor leagues: the Eastern League, founded in 1884; the New York State League, formed in 1885; and the Ontario League, also organized in 1885. The New York State and Ontario leagues merged in 1886 to form the International League, and in 1887 the Eastern League was absorbed to create a 10-club league.

The league collapsed soon afterwards, when the northern teams claimed that it was too onerous to travel to the south and formed the International Association.

Default 1887 International League Schedule- Couple of questions

Toole is the lone Rochester player in the N172.
I need the card for my collecting niche, and I guess it's not that difficult to find
compared to other rare OJs. But the examples that I've seen are too expensive
for me.
Nice schedule by the way. First one I've seen.

Default 1887 International League Schedule- Couple of questions

Hey Adam. Great Item. If I'm not mistaken Frank Grant (a black ballplayer and recent HOFer) played for Buffalo in 1887.

I have a series of trade cards (the blue striped hat series) that has a schedule from the Buffalo team on the back. As soon as I get home and can scan it I was hoping you could let me know if it is from 1887 by comparing my schedule to your schedule. My trade cards are unfortunately trimmed so no year is visible.

I did see this item sell on eBay recently, but could not see the 10 teams listed. Could you please list the 10 teams indicated on your schedule. I found a discrepancy in my research that showed two teams were replaced before the 1887 season.

Sorry for the delay. Here are a couple of scans of the trade cards with a schedule on the back. Unfortunately, the cards have been trimmed, but still look nice. The key part of the cards are the back. It has a baseball schedule for the Buffalo team of the International League. At least that's what I believe the schedule is. Any help would be appreciated.

The nine teams on the back are Toronto, Hamilton, Rochester, Newark, Jersey City, Wilkesbarre, Syracuse, Scranton & Binghampton. That leaves Buffalo and the missing team. I also figure this is from 1887 since Wilkesbarre is on the list, per Baseball Reference.

Hey Ernest,
Thanks for sharing the pics of the trade cards, very cool indeed. It appears to me that those do in fact have International League game schedules on the backs. I just sent payment out for the 1887 Sked this weekend. It should arrive in the mail in in about 1-2 weeks. When I do receive it, I will post a scan of the contents or shoot you an email with one.

Bestest regards,
Adam
