It's a beautiful card, but no title, no story- very mysterious.

Talking about Florida:

John Maine had a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts against the Marlins. The second batter in the 8th inning hit a 40-foot squibbler down the third base line and the no-hitter was gone.

barry- Too little, too late for the Mets. I am hoping that the Curse of Gene Mauch will finally be lifted and the Phils benefit from another team's abysmal collapse rather than sting for 43 years from their own.

Mets have their work cut out, no doubt. There could be a four way tie Sunday night. I'm rooting for that because it's never happened. Always fun to see something new.

The Phillies have an interesting pattern regarding World Series play.....

1915....lost to Boston

1950....lost to Yankees....(but could have won, as the Yankees won the 1st three games by only one run)

1964....(I still have my W.S. tickets).....Bunning & Short, Bunning & Short, etc, etc....why didn't Mauch
give them a break and insert Mahaffey ?

1980....finally there is joy in Philly

1993....the 2nd Managerial hex (Fregosi)....didn't he read the scouting report on Carter ?

2007....I'm looking for a Phillies vs Yankees W.S.

Ted- what is the pattern? To my eyes the years look random.

the only pattern I can see is 10+ years between World Series appearances. Its been 14 years since 1993, so the pattern would still hold...good luck Phillies

The 1950 "Whiz Kids" broke the long 35 year drought and got the Phillies into World Series.

Then, there seems to be a 15 (+/- 1 yr) repeating pattern of the Phillies making it into the W.S.

That is the way I see it. And, of course the one exception is 1964 (as TBOB alluded to the "Mauch hex").
Where they had the NL pennant and blew it. As I said, I'm still holding on to my 1964 Phillies W.S. tickets.

It's looking like your Mets are not only going to lose the East division....they perhaps will not be in the
Play-offs. If the Phillies beat them out, this event will rival the 1951 Dodgers' demise to the Giants.

No doubt the Mets blew it big time, but my prediction:

Sudden death playoff on Monday! (perhaps including more than two teams)

Well, the demise of the Mets has been greatly exaggerated apparently. Considering that one of the teams has picked up a game on the other over like the past 5, it seems difficult to imagine that it will happen yet again tomorrow. I predict a playoff as well -- which is kind of sad because I think either of these teams will win the NL and now one won't even make the playoffs.

Jeff- if there were a three-way tie and one playoff spot left, team A would play team B, and the winner would play team C for that last spot.

But what if there were a three-way tie and two spots were left? How would that get resolved?

Thanks King. If there is a four way tie, I'm not even going to attempt to figure it out. I'll just sit back and turn on the TV.

I'm rooting for as many play-in games as possible, especially if it means a Monday day game, those are the most fun.

I like day baseball too, because night games start too late and last too long, and I fall asleep before they end.

A four way tie would mean a team would play a game Monday, a game Tuesday, use up two of their best pitchers, and start the best of five either Wednesday or Thursday. Not easy.

Boy, it doesn't take long for this to come out. And if the Mets win, it becomes obsolete.

The Phillies' fielding betrayed them today and that choking sign might have to be re-done in Phillies red.
