Default My Cousin Jawing with Joe D:

1941 World Series, Game 5

Just Paid for this Cool Photo:

Supposedly, Durocher taught Whitlow to be mean on the field.

I found him to be a true gentleman. Of course, that was after he retired.

Have you ever read Pat Jordan's book "A False Spring"? He talks a lot about Whit while he was coaching in the Braves minor league system.

My grandmother was his wife's cousin.

He was also the first Pitching Coach for the Atlanta Braves and, when the family attended a home game that year (1966), he helped me down into the dugout before the game and gave me a team-signed ball...Aaron, Niekro, Mathews, Torre, etc.

packs- I have read 'False Spring', 'A Nice Tuesday, & parts of 'The Suitors of Spring' - all three by the aforementioned Pat Jordan.

It has been a few years, however, and now may be a good time to re-read them.
