Now that it's over, what do you think about authenticity and bidding activity on this one?

I thought about it, but I wasn't sure if the flip was from when they were still respectable or not so I just let it go.

You can't even trust the red logo which was the original Sports Collectors Digest. I had a red logo SCD Ernie Banks rookie card graded SCD 8, cracked it and gave it to PSA at the National and it came back "trimmed". Sentit to GAI and also came back "trimmed". I've also had several blue logo cards and every one came back "trimmed". Beware!

i have seen this card for sale for over a year. i spoke to the owner on the phone last year and he wanted $5000 for it. he claims he cant get psa to cross it. i think the bidder may have been a shill but i have no proof. we'll see.

if the bidder with 17 feedback wasn't a shill then he was the worst ebay bidder in history - he bid in $100 increments right up to the amount the winning bidder had a high bid at - he knew the winning bidder was at $3500 and he also bid $3500; 1 more bid increment would have put him in the lead, but instead he suddenly stops. Why?

While most second and third tier grading companies should be avoided, the cards I have purchased in the "old" SCD slabs (with the red logo) appear to be accurately graded, although I have not tried to cross-over any to SGC or PSA.

The "old" SCD was the grading service provided by "Sports Collectors Digest", and that name and the red logo appear on the slabs. The "new" SCD is "Sports Card Direct" (or something like that), and they purportedly acquired the rights to use the old SCD-style holders and flips from Sports Collectors Digest. Apparently, the "new" SCD" could not use the red logo or the name Sports Collectors Digest, but the slabs are identical and the flips are very similar.

If you look at the Q&A in the Ruth auction link above, you'll see that the seller gave a completely inaccurate answer of what happened between the old and new SCD grading companies, making it seem that the card being sold was graded by the old SCD.

The "new" SCD cards are all over eBay, and, IMO, should be avoided in every instance.

That seller has sold a lot of vintage stuff and now knowing that he engages in shilling, will go on the blacklist.

thanks everyone for the assessment. I thought there was a chance it could be a reprint in the newer SCD slab. The old red circle SCD slabs have always crossed over to an equal or higher PSA grade when I won or bought them. Also it appeared to me that almost all the bidders were shills.
