Default Best looking T201 Mecca Double Folder HOFer?

I am currently reading “Game Faces” and am at the T201 Mecca Double Folder chapter… I’m a bit familiar with these cards but they have never really captured my attention due to nicer looking issues from that same era

But the double fold aspect is kind of breakthrough and I’m thinking I may want to add one from the set to my HOF “playing days” pursuit - maybe focusing on a lower tier HOF player.

From more experienced T201 collectors, are there any cards where the player artwork is especially nice or interesting? Again, I’m only a HOF collector, so that would limit my choices.

What would be your suggested “one and only” HOF card from the T201 set?

Thx for your recommendations!

I've always liked the Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson cards the most, as both are featured on the "tall" side, as opposed to the short "fold-over" side.

The Johnny Evers is also a nice one, and as an added bonus, you get Frank Chance on the fold-over.

Default Chance and Evers

I agree with Steve's mention of the Evers-Chance card. You get two HOFers and both are "lower tier" among the Cooperstown crew so you won't have to break the bank for a good quality card as you would for someone like Cobb (who is paired with HOFer Sam Crawford). Evers' pose at the plate is really nice looking, too.

I just put a hold through my local library on Game Faces. Looking forward to checking it out.

Default Walter Johnson -- Gabby Street

Here's Walter's Fact 30. For Washington or St. Louis fans (or fans of the Washington Monument), the Old Sarge is a bonus in the catcher's box on the back.

The Lajoie "floating ball" image is a nice one also.

Oh yeah - that is a great looking one with that maroon sweater and the floating ball! That's not mine in the image below, but it's on my short-list of cards I want to buy next.

To me T201 cards are nice colorful cards, with some nice poses, but overall the faces just don't look like the player. In fact, I think the E91A set does a better job, but of course I would say that, being a constant E91A/B supporter.

Of the Hall of Fame players that have full-length body poses, I would say that the Mordecai Brown card has the closest facial likeness, along with a decent pitching pose. The Crawford (which has a squatty Cobb on its backside) is not a bad likeness, but his wide open mouth bugs me.

For non-HOF players, Chase and Lobert look a fair amount like the player. Without checking out all the non-HOFers, my vote in this category would be Chase.

As far as poses, I really like Mathewson, Speaker, Lajoie, Johnson, Bender and Evers, but their noggins are really lacking in noggin authenticity.

Avoid the Walsh card like the plague...that is one awkward looking depiction.
