It's some kind of comic trade card, but not one I have seen before, so it must be pretty scarce. Bufford published a four card color set that is among the prettiest of all the baseball trade cards. But this black and white one is new to me.

Agree that it looks like an 1800s trade card. There were variety of captioned comic baseball trade cards in the 1800s. Also agree that yours isn't a commonly found example.

This trade card is listed in Frank Keetz's book "Baseball Advertising trade cards" checklisted as single cards with titles. He lists it as a single card, "probably 1870s from uniform".

Steve, the card was originally printed with space at the bottom reserved for a sponsor's ad message. The full card measures approximately 4-3/8 x 2-5/8 inches. See example below.

Looks like they had "trimming" issues even back in the 1870's.
