Default 1914 Japan tour. who is it ?

Posted By: jP

can anyone name some of the other players in this photo.circa 1913-1914. i see Buck Weaver but im not sure of any others? thanks.

this is an article i found online in regards to this world Tour

"Not all players from the Giants and White Sox were up to the adventure of spending the off-season touring the globe. Accordingly, the two clubs had to supplement their rosters with other players from the rest of the American and National Leagues. The White Sox touring club, managed by Jimmy Callahan, included Buck Weaver, Ray Schalk, James Scott, Hal Chase, "Red" Farber, and comedian “Germany” Schaefer of the Chicago club; Sam Crawford of the Detroit Tigers; Tris Speaker of the Boston Red Sox; and Walter Leverenz of the St. Louis Browns. The Giants roster consisted of such well-known players as Larry Doyle, "Bunny" Hearn, Fred Merkle, Ivy Wingo, John "Chief" Meyers, and Christy Mathewson of the New York club; Steve Evans and Lee Magee of the St. Louis Cardinals; and Mickey Doolan of the Philadelphia Phillies. Umpiring was provided by Jack Sheridan and the booming voice of Bill Klem. The entourage included some family members, boosters, and media representatives."

I don't believe Hal Chase went abroad, leaving the tour after it played the Midwest and West Coast. He chose to go home to Northern California instead.

See the book: "The Tour To End All Tours" for detailed info on the tour and all the players, team execs, wives, etc. who made the trip. The book details all the games played here in the U.S. and internationally.

The guy who was selling this on eBay had a bunch of these taken on the ship during the trip overseas and was making all sorts of wild claims as to who the photos represented. He had them for sale starting in the summer.

For some reason he kept seeing Chase in many of the photos! On page 96 of The Tour To End All Tours book, it states that Chase went home to San Jose after the tour played in Seattle in November and before it departed overseas.

That said, I believe the seller had a couple of nice postards that depicted Weaver and one that had Speaker.
