Probably--ungraded card--poor--good condition--most likely type of card to be trimmed. Send picture to Kevin Saucier(Only Child) and he will offer you an informed opinion.

Most card doctors don't care to make an extra $5 trimming a card and making it a gd-vg from a fr card. They would rather take cards in ex condition, trim them, send them to PSA and get them slabbed as 8's so Registry folks can buy them.....Ask any doctor...I have......too bad for PSA 8 collectors.....too good for the rest of us....

Dennis,

If you ask informed people in the hobby, they will tell you it is very easy to make a good card very good and a fair card good and a very good card vg-ex. These changes are done under the radar screen and are done all the time. Much more frequently than higher end cards which get the publicity.

Jim- when you turn a Fair into a Good by trimming it, a $15 card becomes a $20 card. But when you trim an EX to appear NR MT, you might change a $150 card into an $800 one.

If you were a card doctor which one would appeal to you?

It may be hard to do, but card doctors are very skilled in paper restoration, and given the incentive to make thousands of dollars for a few hours of work, will get it painstakingly right.

So right that it very well may fool the graders.

Not so sure about the bottom edge.

Will let the rest of you argue with Jim, again.

Matt- I for one think Kevin Saucier is just another opinion, not the gospel. He knows his stuff but in the end he will make a judgment call.

But not sure I fully got your question.

It has bigger borders than most of the PSA 7-8 T206 cards I've seen...

First, in response to the post..

Actually measuring the card and looking at it in person would really help.

From looking at the front it does not appear trimmed to me. From looking at the back it looks like the vertical sides may have been trimmed slightly. The rounding of the corners doesn't look uniform, the rounding is consistent along the top borders with what I'd expect, but the side roundings seem to have a taper to them consistent with very slight trimming. Although it may well not be trimmed.

After looking at the front, then the back, I return to that front. The front still looks acceptable. Maybe the card was "extra" wide and some knucklehead decided to trim it down to normal size....

As for the disagreement as to which card is the most likely target for trimming.... I think all are. Novice/idiot trimmers would try trimming a worn card, thinking of doubling a $10 card to a bit more. That trimming is usually obvious. As for the high end cards, I think bunches have been trimmed... the guys who do that are adept at what they do, the best shot at detecting it is to magnify the card edges looking for signs of a cut inconsistent with the factory cut. If that is missed by a card grader, then you have a slabbed card that is trimmed. Folks that myopically focus on card grade slips instead of cards are in denial about that, or oblivious to it. I recall years ago how jumbo border T206s were noted in card dealer card catalogs, and how they were sought out at shows. Ever wonder what happened to the "jumbos"?? Look in a PSA 8 holder somewhere.

To me, it is the bottom edge that looks suspect, as the corners appear somewhat bat-eared. On the other hand, there is an unusually large top border that does not appear trimmed, which is a good fact for two reasons: (1) it gives comfort that the narrower bottom border is the original width and (2) it begs the question -- why would someone trim the bottom but not the top when the top has all that extra border?

In the end it's impossible to tell for sure on those scans. Who knows. Personally, I'd spend the same money on a low grade, graded one, and not gamble on raw Southern Leaguers.

But of course, with all the slab altering, it's becoming a crap shoot all around.

"The card looks fine to me

That's why you are an attorney and not a card grader. Comparing it's size to a PSA 7 or PSA 8 is comparing apples to oranges. The bottom edge is irregular and in the scan appears trimmed.
