It seems like that Tip Top Wagner got off to a VERY fast start.

I wondered how he would do selling the Tip Tops one-by-one rather than as a set like Mastro. My quick math shows that the Tip Tops are already at $53K-ish without the vig which at this point (and 25 days remain) seems to indicate that they are going to do considerably better than the Mastro lot.

How do you expect me to ever complete my HOF RC set with bidding on the Tip Top - Barney Dreyfuss already multiple times over book after the first day???

seems like a no-brainer to me (selling the tip-top set as individual lots vs. complete set)...there might only be a handful of people that can afford the complete set as one lot...and 100's/1,000's of bidders that can get in the mix with individual lots...

Just one question: explain to me how the Dreyfuss Tip Top is graded lower than the Wagner?

Cat, exactly. Perhaps the winner can send it in to GAI, get a 10, and then cross it over to SGC for a 9?

Jeff, do you ever get the impression that there is a certain level of collector who get "deals" that are unavailable to the rest of us? Hmmm....perhaps it's just my imagination or paranoia.

I wonder how much Collectors Universe stock I would have to buy....? Or, on Monday I guess I could call GAI and see if they need a capital partner.

Cat, yes, poor slobs like us get none of the deals. It's the story of my life. And now I've been blackballed from Mastro! I guess because I've only spent over 50K with them over the past 18 months that I'm considered a slacker and they needed to cut me off. I wonder if they'll send me back the $75 that they made me pay to get the first catalogue!

"now I've been blackballed from Mastro!"

Wait a minute. This is the first I heard of this!!! I didn't detect any smiley faces in your post so I am assuming it's true! Glad to see Mastro is taking the "low road." Tells me that if they could of taken away your right to free speech they would have done it.

No smiley faces inserted. Mastro stopped sending me catalogues. I have no doubt it is due to the fact that I dared to criticize them publicly; I believe they have done this before to some of their critics. Pathetic. I'll find out soon if they've barred me from bidding as well.

Jeff,

For what it's worth, I received Mastro's latest catalog five business days after two friends of mine who live within 60 miles of me received theirs.

Then again, maybe you have landed on the blacklist.

"You named names."

The current price of the Dreyfuss alone is more than I have invested in my complete set.

I picked up a couple, including Wagner, in 1999 and then a group lot of 21 in 2000 from Clean Sweep for about $2400. I picked up the last card, Dreyfuss, in 2002.

Jeff,

I spent about the same with Mastro under my name and witha couple of different dealers bidding for me.

I was cut off too apparently for asking questions regarding Doug's admission that they took creases out of cards.

Those Tip Tops are sitting at a combined $93,400. I'm glad I picked up my PSA 2 Tip Top Wagner when it was affordable (Thanks Leon!!!).

Very happy with my one pick-up, a W600 Jimmy Collins (SGC 10 w/significant paper loss) at a very reasonable price. The Fred Clarke in similar condition went for a bargain price also.

I saw the actual Barney Dreyfuss card at the Goodwin booth & it looked like it could be a higher grade. REALLY nice !!! I thought (and so did Bill Goodwin) that it would have gone higher. I wish I had the money to have bid for it.

agreed, the Clarke and Collins w600's were steals compared to what the others sold for, especially the McGraw.

There were some very strong prices last night including not only the Tip Top Wagner, but the E97s, like the Young PSA 6 going for over 20k with juice!
