That Dahlen is a nice card but is generously graded.

The grade is due to the fact that there is an area of paper loss on the back under Coombs' name. The best place for the loss IMO since it doesn't obliterate any of the names on the checklist. I can live with that.

Just a quick story on Bierbauer and the Pirates name, don't want to get the April pick-up thread off topic, so I'll leave it at this.

After signing Bierbauer and others, the Philadelphia owners did say they "pirated" players from other teams and a few out of town papers called them Pirates in 1891(Boston, Chicago and Cincinnati), but the local paper still referred to them either as the Alleghenys at the beginning of that season or as the Hanlons after manager Ned Hanlon. When Bill McGunnigle took over later in the season, he used a whistle during practices and the team then became known as the Pets. A name that was used quite often. Pirates was never used by the local papers.

The Pirates nickname didn't catch on until later and it may have more to do with the owner of the club at the time, William Kerr, who was called Captain Kerr and had a pet parrot in his office, that was an ill-mannered bird and quite famous.

The PSA thread reminded me to post this - this is part of the order I just got back. Got this and a T205 common from the latest b-l auction. Great inexpensive shipping by the way. Oh and excuse the awful cell phone pic.

Thank you.

I looked up the Fulton figuring it wasn't the one in Pittsburgh and have been able to date the program between 1/10/1941 and 9/25/1943.

Sorry to be off topic.

Thanks Scott. It's been a labor of love to get all 6 color variations of each card but I'm very close, all slabbed (plus a handful of the super rare orange variations). Two Cobbs, two Wagners, two Youngs and a handful of commons to go. I had just hit a wall about a year ago and this olive Speaker was the first one to come up that I needed.

excited to add this card, might be the best looking Cy Young card IMO...
SGC hammered it with some ink on the reverse, still thought it would get a 1.5 but I love it...

Maybe its a little off topic, but it is an April pickup of sorts...and after going the past 4 years without a car payment it will effect my fun budget a little.
