Default 1927 Rinky Dink Stamps

A recent pick up and kind of neat so thought I would share. Many probably saw them on ebay. It was the full set of 10 sheets with the stamps on them. I had never seen the full comic pages before....best regards

All I have to go on is the newspaper and it says "R U Saving them?" so my guess is it was a giveaway which in turn would be to sell more papers. Therefore I will go with what's behind Door 1 and say "yes."

I guess this could also beg the question, when would it be alright to cut up a paper like this? The set in NRMT goes for $450.....I would hope that with the right cut they would be close to MINT.....I have just never had the heart to cut anything up AND I NEVER would do it to an item this scarce. A beat up, more common strip card.....maybe, though I never have.

I had seen the OC writeup about their being associated with Winnie Winkle, and I have one of the two I'm interested in (have Bucky Harris; WaJo is still out there somewhere). Very neat to see them in the original setting.

I wonder how many were in a "set"? OC says there are 10 total, and the Ruth is described as the first one in the second set. Leon, can you tell us which stamps were where in the lineup?

Bill

Bill
There are 10 baseball players in the set and in this grouping.
I can't do it now but will give an update to this thread in a few days. I will be tied up in business meetings until Sunday evening....yippee!!

Sometimes resurrecting an old thread has it's merits. I never knew there were 2 different colors of these stamps. There are ones with yellow backgrounds, as in this upper post in this thread, and ones with green backgrounds as in this auction and this Johnson. I am now thinking each player came in one of 2 colors....... (I don't know the seller of this one)....

These come in all colors and in different sizes. I'm not even sure the TPG's should encapsulate them since they are basically newspaper clippings, but PSA, SGC, and BVG all do.

I have only seen green and yellow. Have you seen others? I do think they should be graded AUT as they are being done. As far as size goes, I equate them to strip cards.

I've seen other color combinations. The following attached ones aren't mine (and includes the one from Leon's ebay link).

Leon, FYI, my example of the WaJo stamp has the same color pattern as yours (I assume the one you showed is yours). I don't recall ever seeing a WaJo with a different color pattern, but it seems that others probably exist.

Here's my Harris--Green diamond on a red background. All the ones shown here and in the OC gallery have a "2" on the ball in the UL corner. Does that mean that they're from the second series (as on the full page shown in the first post), or is that just to make them more like a postage stamp? First-class postage at the time was 2 cents.

Gary, you said they come in different sizes. Do you have measurements? Mine matches the size shown in OC, 1-1/4 x 1-5/8.

Also. I noticed that mine doesn't say "Rinkeydink" in the cartouche at the bottom. Could this be a missing ink pass, or is it possible that some other newspaper used the images but couldn't call them Rinkeydinks?

BTW, a complete set sold in 2008 through Goodwin. http://www.goodwinandco.com/LotDetai...ventoryid=3061 Their description says that there were also 10 comic strip characters. Those must have been the first series.

Bill

Default MIssing Ink run and Hornsby

I think the missing "Rinky Dink" wording on the one above is just poor quality printing. These aren't so intricate that I would think they would be used by another paper. I could be wrong but my guess is a missing ink pass, as you said. Here is the Hornsby on a full sheet.
