But I was piddling around Ebay looking for a mid grade T206 Evers Portrait to go with my Tinker & Chance and came across this card. Is this an aberation or is there something special about this card that i am missing. Are Lower Tier PSA5 T206 HOFers really 4 figure cards?

The Evers pose with "Cubs" across chest is a tougher pose, and it doesn't come up that often in a 5. Still very high, but high prices are the norm, not an aberration.

That pose of Evers comes up far less frequently than the other Evers poses but that is still a huge number for the card, even in a 5. The card's condition resembles PSA 4s I have seen in the past which have gone for $300-400.
Too much money for this card. Congrats to the seller though...

Hi Jerry,
I would expect the "Blue Sky" Evers in PSA 5 to fetch about $700 in today's market. The "Blue Sky" Evers is available only in the 150 series and is one of the more difficult T206 HOF subjects. You could probably get the "Yellow Sky" Evers in similar condition for about half as much, i.e. $350, as it is one of the easiest cards in the set.

Everything these guys said ahead of me is true. You never need to be surprised at the prices that people pay for PSA cards.

I will have to say since this board was started we have used lots of words but never "piddling", great for a newcomer, welcome to the board.

Lee
