Default Niagara Baking Cards (D355)

Posted By: Marc S.

Hey all:

Some of you may be aware that I've been trying to research and update information as it relates to this esoteric bread issue. There was a small write-up in November's Old Cardboard in the hopes that it would stimulate conversation and perhaps even udpated the known checklist - which, at this time, comprises only of Otto Knabe, but with a theoretical checklist of every E-101 card.

I have done some digging around - and have actually gotten some good information from the Met and it's Jefferson Burdick collection. According to an assistant curator there, Burdick had six examples of the D355 Niagara Baking cards in his collection. They include[d] the following:

Knight, s.s, New York Am.
Miller, 2b., Pittsburg Nat'l
Bender (white hat), p., Phila. Am.
Bender (striped hat), p., Phila. Am.
Murphy, r.f., Phila. Amer.
Lobert, 3b, Cincinnati Nat'l

Obviously there are more of these out there - but they show up relatively infrequently. If anyone has additional information that they can add to this discussion, it would be appreciated.

Marc

I don't know anything about the cards, but I managed to pick this neat item up a little while back. Thought it would be a good display item if I ever get lucky enough to acquire a type card.
