Default Barry Sloate Auctions Closes November 16

Posted By: barrysloate

Just a reminder that my auction closes at 6:00 PM November 16 for initial bids. It will then run for several additional hours until the phones stop ringing. Current status of bids is posted on my website at www.sloateauction.com and new bids can be emailed to bsloate@att.net or phoned in during business hours at 718-855-7513.
I also want to add that net54 moderator Brian McQueen will be flying into New York tomorrow to help me on the final day. Most of you know Brian and hopefully will get to speak with him that night. We will have two incoming phone lines and two cells for callbacks so everyone should be able to get through. Good luck to all and thanks for your support. Regards, Barry

So now would not be a good time to raise the buyer's fee to 20%?

Maybe I could just change it to 20% without even announcing it- just add it to the invoices at the end. That would certainly garner some warm responses!

You should advertise to your consignors that the buyer's fee will be:

not less than FOUR PERCENT!!!

(my computer won't let me make the "not less than" as tiny as I want to)

Apparently that would then allow you to charge a buyer's premium of anything higher... like 50%.

Michael- good that you spotted that. Never gave it a moment's thought. But I think it is more like an arrow pointing to my name. Nobody's stealing home anyway.

But I admire the fact that you were so observant. That shows me people are paying attention.

Reminds me of when Al Bundy received the envelope in the mail titled "You already owe $1 million!"

I never saw that episode...

but I do remember:

"Hey! I think all of our problems may have just been solved. Ed McMahon. Think I just won a million bucks. Yeahhahhah, Irwin M. Fletcher you choose. Woo wee! Oh boy, I lost."

Would you guys stop bumping this thread to the top of the forum!!! There's some of us that might want to win something in that auction and drawing attention to it doesn't help us!!!!

Actually, the best Al Bundy quote was he was trying to explain to his wife why he could outwit the mouse loose in the basement: "A mouse's brain is only this big (showing thumb and finger close to each other). Mine's got to be twice that big."

Barry:

When you post, please make it clear whether the "end price" you are posting is BEFORE or AFTER the 15% buyer's fee. Thanks

Those of us who use auctions to determine card values need to know whether a card "cost" the buyer $2,000 or $2,300.

Thanks

Final prices will be clearly marked "including 15% buyer's premium." Should be up late this afternoon.
