Default REA Auction Ends Today Sunday April 30. Initial Bids Must Be Placed By 12 PM EST!

Hi Everyone,

Just a note of reminder that REA's Spring Auction ends this Sunday, April 30. Initial bids must be placed by 12 PM EST on Sunday. We will be utilizing the same method of closing that we did in the fall where extended bidding begins at noon eastern and the entire auction remains open until no bids have been placed for 15 minutes. If the auction continues past 6 PM EST, we reserve the right to close it at anytime, but under no circumstance will the auction continue past midnight eastern. Last year's auction was over by 11:45 PM EST Sunday night. We recommend that you follow the recent bids page to stay aware of the auction's activity throughout the night.

You can check out all 2650+ lots on our website.

If you have not yet registered for the auction, you may do so online.

If you would like to receive a free catalog, you may request one online.

If you're signed up to bid and forget your login information, you can request your bidder number or your password on our website.

We will be in the office tomorrow from 10 AM to 5 PM EST and again on Sunday from 8 AM through the close of the auction if you need any assistance. You can also email us with questions at any time.

As always, thank you to all the bidders and consignors who make these auctions possible. Best of luck to all participating!

Brian Dwyer
REA

Just a reminder that today is closing day.

The deadline for initial bids is 12 PM Eastern.

Extended bidding will continue until no bids have been placed on any items for 15 minutes. The entire auction remains open; it does not close lot by lot.

We reserve the right to close it at our discretion any time after 6 PM EST without regard to the 15 minute rule.

We will send out at least two email updates, including a fair warning email, later in the evening, but we encourage bidders to monitor the recent bids page on our website to see the pace of the auction.

http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/lots/bids

If the auction is still going at 12 AM Midnight, it will close automatically, but it did not reach Midnight last year.

We are in the office all day for anyone with questions.

Good luck to all!

Brian

I always enjoy looking at what comes up for auction and seeing the bids. Just wish I had the money to play like some do!

Kudos for an amazing auction, and a civil and humane closing time!

What's the policy for cards with no bids? If you place one now, do you win it outright, now that we're in overtime?

And secondly, the timing/wording of the closing rules is slightly incorrect. Since the clock is timed to quarter hours, there technically could be no bids in 29 minutes and the auction may not end, just based on bidding at the start of one quarter and the end of another quarter. It's cleaner to only end at :15, :30, :45, or :00 but the language does not portray that. (I do a lot of editing of engineering documents, so I'm a little overboard when it comes to being grammar police.)

Answering my own question, you cannot place a bid to win an item if it had no bids on it. So if anyone consigned the Williams/Dimaggio contracts, send me a PM and we can do a PayPal goods deal if you want to.

This is from REA's website:

however, items without a bid entering extended bidding will remain open for interested bidders to open during the extended bidding period. In the event an item without a bid entering the extended bidding period receives a bid during extended bidding, it will be closed to new bidders immediately as is the case with all lots having received a single bid.

That makes no sense whatsoever. So it basically turns into a BUY IT NOW?

It did not allow me to bid despite claiming the auction is still Open.

Why are people still bidding at the last second?

A few cards I really need but don't like the condition at all. I love when REA submits a card to PSA and gets 2 grades higher than I would get. Oh well. How the game is played I guess.

I don't think people are necessarily bidding at the last second. Unlike other auctions, REAs clock ticks of 15 minutes, if there were any bids during the 15 minutes, it resets for another round. Other sites clocks reset to 15 minutes the second there is a bid.

Don't see many deals at all, and the 20% is killer! I do like the fact they offer free shipping though.

Thanks for letting me know, I've watched it count down TWICE.

One more thing, I wish I was able to see what my max bid had been once I'm outbid on an item. Then I wouldn't be tempted to go higher

The best you can do is go to the individual lot, click on Bid History, and it will show you there.

Every time I look at the recent bids page it shows a flurry of bids on the T3s. Is it just two bidders topping each other?

Are you sorting by "Recent Bids"; I only see 1 (Chief Bender) in the last 50 bids.

Very confusing!

I, earlier, like hours ago, watched the Mickey Mantle countdown and was fully expecting some snipe bids in the dying seconds but not only didn't I see any, the auction automatically added another 15 minutes.
The bid at that time, hrs ago, was $140,000. Just checking now, it is still at $140,000?

Do they just keep bumping this up hoping more people bid or is there a method to their madness?

It's got to be hell for the current winning bidder watching this auction go on and on with no new bids coming in!

There was a lull for a while, but now three of the eight most recent bids were T3s.

I still wonder if it's just a couple bidders?

If anyone places a bid on any one of the thousands of lots in their auction the 15 minutes clock for the entire auction is reset. They are still getting 8-10 bids on various items every minutes. So the 15 minute thing will just be rest and reset until (a) no one bids on any lot for 15 minutes or (b) they just called a code on the auction and shut it down, which most auction houses do after a FINAL WARNING email of some kind.

They will likely go until the 12am ET time and then call it. Bidding is still feverish.
Other auctionhouses either reset the countdown timer after every bid, or they close certain lots individually unless people keep bidding on those specific lots. REA uses "any bid on any lot extends the whole auction 15 minutes". Except they actually extend the 9:15 pm end time to 9:30.

Really would love them to adopt the individual item clock. That makes the auction better to watch as an individual. They have run it this way for years, doubt things change anytime soon.

Seems to me the bid intervals on REA are pretty inflated at the higher levels, so a lot of the pricey stuff hits a realistic sale price fairly quickly and then stalls.

For example, I can imagine where something that might look decent at $65,000 ($78,000), doesn't look quite so appetizing at $70,000 ($84,000).

Maybe their increments are the same as others. Great auction house and no one can deny that.

Good point, but I figure if you have $20,000 to spare, you have $22,000 to spare

Uhhh, $24K. No wonder the buyers premium exists... ;-)

. . .and add another $1400 if you are lucky enough to live in New Jersey.

OK, OK, now I see why nobody bid on it.

In seriousness, it really is a headliner card. I wonder what would have happened if the initial bid was 10,000, and a bidding war started.

I'm waiting for my few remaining leading bids to come crashing down. 😅

Having fun watching the T206 Cobbs since there are so many:

http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...searchin=title

A wealth of pricing data. So far consistent with the recent (last 12 months) leap in Green/Red portrait prices and more measured advance in Bat On/Bat Off prices.

I think the Cobb (Bat Off) PSA 6 Uzit is extremely underpriced @ $96K with juice. Total freak card. Only a matter of time before it is priced in line with PSA 1 Wagners.

looks like cobb saturation to me...seemingly weak prices on those reds and some of the greens. The uzit is a freak and is worth 6 figures.

personally I'd take that blank backed black and white e93 cobb anyday over a t206!!!!

Yeah, there are a lot of collectors who offered-up their low- to mid-grade Cobb Red/Green (especially Red) Portrait 1-4s looking to cash-in on the recent price spike. The sheer quantity is putting a bit of a lid on prices--but they are still strong when put in a 5 to 10 year (even 2 year) context. Heck, I remember paying $1500 for a Red Portrait PSA 5 ten years ago. I couldn't get one at 3X that price now. And don't get me started on Green Portrait . . . .
