Default April Pick Ups

I picked up this 1938 Joe Gordon model glove in the original box in Good Year Arizona during my annual spring training trip. Sorry about the poor phone picture. The 1971 PA House of Representative Resolution commending the Pirates World Series Victory came from the Steve Blass Collection. Technically it was obtained last month but was waiting for me when I returned from Arizona so I will claim it as an April pick up

1964 publicity photo of George Harrison from the Beatles appearance on the British TV show Big Night Out.

1966 publicity photo and press release for the Star Trek episode Shore Leave. I've been collecting Trek material a long time but have never seen a piece like this before:

Great items Mike. Was watching the Blass item, but didn't bid on it. It found its way to the right collection.

Thanks, the Blass piece was the only item I won in that auction. I certainly drove prices up for them. I always seem to be the bridesmaid never the bride in their auctions.

Picked up this James Jeffries glass lantern slide. It was from a 1927 silent movie he was in.

Picked up this Yankees vs Athletics 1933 scorecard, Babe Ruth hit 2 home runs both coming off of Lefty Grove. I also received my 1900's Reach mushroom bat.

Default 1939 Draper-Maynard Spring & Summer Sports Equipment Catalogue

I recently picked up a nice copy of the 1939 D & M Spring & Summer Sports Equipment Catalogue.

My interest is mostly because it has two pages that prominently feature Johnny Vander Meer endorsed equipment. D & M and Goldsmith both got Vander Meer to sign endorsement deals following his noteworthy 1938 rookie season when he pitched an unprecedented back-to-back no-hitters on 6/11/38 and 6/15/38.

It's a cool catalogue to look through. Here are a few pictures for those of you that may be interested...

Default Grambling Game Used Warm-up

I recently picked up what I believe is a vintage Grambling University basketball warm-up. It is #20 and was supplied by Vic Young Sporting Goods out of Des Moines IA. I believe it is 1940/50's. I haven't been able to find any pictures or other info on Grambling basketball teams from that era. Any other thoughts on this in terms of dating it?

Default Sal the Barber

I'm happy to have just added this great Type I 1956 Sports Illustrated photo of Sal "The Barber" Maglie to my collection. The photo was the work of Arthur Daley.

Sal Maglie threw a no-hitter for the Brooklyn Dodgers on September 25th, 1956 and was the tough luck loser in Don Larsen's World Series Perfect Game on October 8th, 1956. The photo has November, 1956 stamped on it on the back.

Scott, those are great additions to an already ridiculously impressive collection. How do you keep finding these items?

I don't right now. We are in the process of moving, so I'll have some displayed then, but there won't be enough room for 3/4 of them to display unfortunately

That Brett bat is awesome! I am almost embarrassed to post this pickup after the long shadows cast by some amazing pickups this month. I have no pride so I'll share it nonetheless The 1971 San Francisco NLCS stubs were difficult to find. However, I have seen 3 stubs to game 1 and two stubs to game 2. A 1971 ALCS Game 3 stub has been terribly elusive. I had given up on my goal of collecting a stub from all of the post season games of the 1971 season. Game 3 was the last stub I needed to complete my goal. Then I found this one almost accidentally. It is the first example of this stub I have ever seen. Reggie hit the first two post season homers of his career in this game. Thanks for indulging me. Its hard to believe an $11 pickup could make me so happy. I think my wife may be right about my need for therapy.

I totally get it, Mike. There are 3 crappy pinbacks I have been searching for for 20 years. If I ever find them, I figure I'll be the only bidder. If I find them...
