anyone attending the philly show this weekend? I will be there Saturday with the hopes of adding to my t206 collection. I will be on the look out for a red portrait ty cobb, preferably a psa 2. think I should be able to find one there?

Default sunday

looks like Sunday for me... a few things to get graded with SGC and a few items to consign. Struck out from a buying perspective last time, so not too optimistic on that front.

I was at the last show. Plenty of T206, but I'm cheap. I was primarily there as a consignor and submitter.

I'll be there as usual, set up in booth #308, displaying items from the next LOTG auction and accepting consignments.

Drop by, say hi, bring the kids for free packs of cards.

thanks to everyone for the info. I'm looking forward to adding to my collection.

I don't know if this is an inappropriate question but what is your guess a dealer sells a red cobb graded a 2 for. no rare backs, just sweet cap or piedmont.

Al, I might have dropped by had the offer been "Drop by for a free pack of smokes with a T206 in it." Still waiting to hear that offer from a dealer.

Take care, friend.

I'll be there Saturday or Sunday.

You guys that have been to the show in the last few years, what time do the dealers start packing up Sunday?

Unfortunately, a bit too early for my taste. I have been to the show two or three times in the past two years. Typically, I only have free time on Sundays and attend then. About two hours before the show "ends," I notice that dealers whose tables I am revisiting after my initial slow crawl through the show are already busily packing up.

I am not a bargain box hunter, either. I recently spent ten minutes at the Philly show "waiting" with the hope that the dealer would give his dutiful assistant the asking price for a SGC 40 T206 Keeler (with bat) that had no price sticker on it. Eventually, I became so frustrated that I told her to let him know that I would take my business elsewhere...and did...I happily spent $200 at someone else's table.

I may be old school in saying this; however, when I set up at a show, I stay set up until the show is over. As for your question, I offer the following advice:

If you're only going on Sunday, get there early and go with a list. When you see something you want at a price you're comfortable with, ask the dealer for a 10% discount. Don't say 10%, though. If it's a $100 card, ask. "wouldya take ninety fer dat?" (Inserting Philly area lingo, which I am sure Terry will understand.)

Hope this helps...and I should be at the show on Sunday. If I am, you will be able to spot me easily. I will be sporting a bald head and clean shaven face (think, Mr. Clean, without the earring,) blue jeans, and the old grey Net54 T-shirt with Ty Cobb.

Best regards and happy collecting.

Eric

John,

Sorry to hear that you're not looking to fill any wish lists.

The Philly Show is likely going to be a sausage flavored cardboard fest, my friend. Best of luck looking for anything nicer than you already have.

Best regards,

Eric

Bought 265 cards...for the 12 or so I needed. I saw a lot of familiar faces and met some new friends. NO CELL SERVICE in the showroom was horrible, other than that worth the 2 hr drive for me. Good amount of vintage dealers, seemed like prices were moderate to high

Maybe it was my provider, I have t-mobile and only had sporadic service near the PSA table.

I was unable to pick up a Cobb red portrait. Mission failed. However, side mission of picking up a t206 lajoie was a success. However again, for a psa 2, i am pretty sure I over payed. No cell service either.

I picked up this 33 Goudey Ruth #181 in a cash/trade deal. It made my trip to Phila. a happy one.

So great to see so many Net54 guys at the show. Took in some fantastic consignments, talked baseball with a lot of kids (and dads), and generally had a nice time.

Friday was pretty slow, as usual, and since Saturday is a day for autographs, the show was populated mostly by kids and adults looking to get stuff signed. In hindsight, I would have liked to have gotten Pete Rose to sign something for my son, along with a message about hustle, but I just didn't think of it until it was too late.

Today, despite being pretty slow, was a strong day for LOTG. The ride home was pretty miserable today, though, a slushy slog through PA and NJ. Nice to see everyone; looking forward to the next show.
