Default Negro Leagues legend Martin Dihigo, who was born on this day in 1905.

I saw this article on Foxsports this morning. I love the Negro Leagues, learning much about its history in the book, 'Only the Ball was White' by Robert Peterson. It's a great read.

I don't own any Dihigo cards. If any board members do or have photos, I would welcome seeing them posted here.

Have a great day!

Thanks for posting. After reading it I sought out reading his SABR bio.

I have a new found appreciation for Martin Dihigo.

Oh and after like 40 years of seeing his name, I now know it's pronounced Dee-go.

Thanks again for posting.

some consider this to be one of the most important NL cards... I happen to disagree, but still a nice card

Originally from Dihigo's personal collection; he noted the players and signed his own name by his image.

It's not in great shape, but still really cool. Picked it up through an auction house from a board member if I remember correctly.

Nice collection of rare Dihigo cards, Al. The last one, Dominican Republic looks like an SGC 60 or so, paper loss on the back, I guess?

Jeff:

Nice pick-up on the Hilldale photo, Jeff. I had that one for a little while, included Charleston, just wish more of him was visible in the photo but definitely there along with Judy J and of course Dihigo himself.

looks like a crease on the bottom through his chest...but I agree, very cool (rare) card of Dihigo.

Definitely leaves something to be desired from a pure visual standpoint, but it's other attributes (rare team photo, owned by Dihigo, with him writing his name) definitely make up for that, and I thought the price was pretty favorable. Honestly, it's not really a fit with my PC, but at the price I felt I couldn't let it pass... Don't know if I'll hold it long term or move it, but it's pretty cool IMO.
