Default RR Baseball Contracts

Anyone get any? I was going to go after the Nolan Ryan 1972 Angels contract, but...forgot that bidding stops at 8:00pm Eastern and extended starts at 9:00pm. I was ready to bid at 8:55pm and got that all-too-familiar message.

So, anyone?

You've got to be kidding me - no one here was watching last night's RR auction?

That was the best set of big-name early player contracts I've seen in one auction.

Okay, I will go ahead and post some eye-candy. This amuses ME, so I'm running with it!

Those are great!

I kept an eye on the auction, but wasn’t in on anything. Got one of my first signed T206s in an RR auction maybe 14 years ago.

The prices for their cards was quite high so there were definitely people watching. Contracts are cool and something I would collect if I was doing autographs.

I purchased the Goudey psa 5 Babe Ruth # 181---paid top dollar but it was a very nice card, also got the T206 Speaker and Eddie Collins---Prices were high but great stuff. One of my buddies was going for The Mathewson contract, don't know if he got it or not.

I bid on quite a few but did not win any.

The one I was most interested in was the Campanella Puerto Rico contract. I was the 2nd highest bidder, but wasn't ready to get into a major bidding war on it. I do think the price was pretty reasonable on it.

The other 2 I was most interested in were Monte Irvin and Willard Brown.

I thought the Aaron from the season he set the home run record would go for more. Otherwise, the prices seemed pretty strong.

Those are really great items. Is anyone else bothered by the 2 very different Jacob Ruppert signatures? I think it would be great to have the Ruth and Gehrig items, but to also have the owner who purchased Ruth from the Red Sox, that is another historical level of cool for me.

Pretty sure the Ruppert with the swirly is actually Barrow's sig.

Contracts aside....the entire auction went for insane $$$$ I placed healthy bids on a number of items and couldn’t even keep pace with the numbers being thrown out there. Happy for anyone who won some needed items.

I regularly follow RR for non-sports autographs. When I saw these contracts I had to avoid looking until the auction was over. In my opinion there were so many big contracts that some 'small' stuff snuck through, such as the Chief Bender and Ryan contracts.

I was very pleased to pick up the Ted Williams handwritten letter. I collect antique revolvers and handwritten letters, so this was a real score as Williams alludes to his interest in competitive shooting.

Kind of weird - no PSA loa for this, yet it is used as an exemplar on PSA's website.

I was bidding on the Ashburn contract, but not pursuing aggressively.

A really nice run they had, for sure

Jeff, I was also interested in the Campy contract, but didn't end up going after it. I tried to find out what it went for after the auction, but it doesn't come up in any searches, so I thought maybe it didn't hit a reserve. Do you know what it sold for?

Looking now I am not sure if it had a reserve or something that I was not aware of because I am not seeing it either.

I believe the high bid was around $5500 calculating with buyer's premium.

Many of these do not show up in the RR searches, including the Mantle and Williams. If you Google 'campanella contract rr', then 'view image', then replace 'scans' with 'larger', you can at least get a good look at it. But I haven't found any way to find the end prices.

There seems to be a lot of lot numbers missing in the realized price list, which sure seems to imply there were reserves on a number of these contracts. I don't mind reserves, but I avoid auction houses that use hidden reserves. If that is the case, I won't be bidding with them in the future.

Rick, I don't know if it means there were hidden reserves. If you use their advanced search to look for items that were in past auctions, these don't show up there either. But you could be right - maybe they flag such items in their system to hide the trail.

I'm sure you could call them and ask what happened to the Campanella, Mantle and Williams contracts, and they would tell you.

I was watching them. Awesome items. The Willard Brown was something I was interested in late in the process but never bid.
