Just got in a rebacked OJ card from him. Did I hit the lottery with him? I would tell all the other winners of his OJ cards from the last two weeks they better look carefully at their ungraded cards... JC

JC,

The bottom line is "how did he handle this?"

Is he offering a refund?

How do you know it's rebacked? Is it obvious?

He sent back a nice e-mail saying he would take it back. It is very clear to see two different pieces of paper stuck together. Plus they are different color and thicker than all other OJ's I own. I had a dealer friend of mine look at as well who is staying at the house this week and he agrees 100%. It was an OJ I really wanted, but I do not want a re-backed one....

JC,

Please tell me this isn't the same card....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ALCOTT-1887-OLD-JUDGE-N172-FREE-S-H-ST-LOUIS-WHITES_W0QQitemZ290098072871QQcategoryZ86839QQrdZ1 QQcmdZViewItem

There is no disclosure of the card being rebacked in this item description, either.

he is good at customer service. He wouldnt hesitate to return anything that one isnt satisfied with. His son probably listed it w/o knowing.Dont worry about him.

Soory , Judge- I have bought from him 4-5 times and havent had any bad expieriences.Havent bought OJ's from him. We just buy a few different things from him , I guess. My statement is based on his return policies.

They look like very nice examples. I'd think a long-time seller would've had these slabbed, especially before reselling an outed card. Yea, must be a kid listing them.

My impression from exchanged emails with Mr. Slomer is that he is a true gentleman.

apparently all of his Old Judge cards that week were re-backed or not satisfactory to the buyers...they were all sent back and re-listed this week. and he conveniently didn't say so in his listings. I have been trying to contact him for a couple of days with no luck about the re-backed OJ I bought on March 15th.

I wrote him when he first listed his OJs to ask what he had available and I thought he said his son was getting them graded, but I could be mistaken about that. In any event, he seemed like a pleasant enough fellow.

Dave:

What Old Judge card did you win from him on ebay?

Kevin

Yes that is the SAME card I sent back. He sent me a full refund check instead of refunding back though Paypal.. No biggie. He claims that it is NOT rebacked and he had NO other issues with the other cards he sent out and I just hit the lottery. Well the ALcott card is REBACKED and it is easy too see. It is thicker than normal and there is spliting all the way around the card. YOu can CLEARLY see two pieces of paper that have different toning on them. Lastly the smudge you see on the front left of the card is from the GLUE that held them together in my opinion. I would buy accordingly and I do not like seeing it being sold the same way after I told him what was wrong with it (not that I'm an expert).

My Brother and I were the ones that bought the N172 Flint card for $250. I haven't seen the card in person yet, but my brother says it is very easy to see that the back is a totally different type of papaer than all our other Old Judges....he says it's way to hard and the texture is totally different...almost like modern posterboard I just noticed that David Slomer has not put anything in his listings about the cards being returned for any reason. If the seller was such a good guy why would he do this ? Who wants to bet my brother and I don't get our money back

about David Slomer being away ...I guess I'll wait a few more days and try to contact him again if I don't hear from him first. It sounds like several people know him well enough to vouch for his character, so I'm hopeful that he'll reply.

Just wanted to let others know that David contacted me this morning. I explained to him some of the flaws I thought the Flint Old Judge card had, like the funny looking back, the appearance of overlap when looking at the card from face on, the edges were tapered or smoothed it appeared in order to conceal the re-back job...etc. He agreed to refund my money with no strings attached.
I must say it's refreshing to find an Ebay seller that has character. I don't know if he reads this forum, but I would buy from him again, and I applaud his honetsy and straightfowardness.
