Default Magie Error - Ebay Auction

Can't post a link or image because I'm on my BlackBerry, but the Magie that ended on ebay tonight (PSA 1.5 Fair - $7096.00) was a real beauty, especially for a 1.5. It was a private auction, but if anyone here won it -- congrats on a beautiful pickup.

Agreed, that was a good price to pick that card up for. I bet the private auction thing turned a few people away from bidding (at least it would have turned me away had I been going after it).

Well it wasnt me.. I had my snipe set at 6800 and that didnt even go through because the bid was higher then that already when my snipe was set to go off.. Oh well.. I thought 7-8K was where it should end up for a card that is in Good condition... but hoping that it would go for less than 7K..

maybe next time

Default Magie Error - Ebay Auction

To me, just one more example of HOW eBay management is STUPID!!!!

I mean, you guys have more experience in T206 cards than I do and have deemed this card legit. You guys have more money than I do but have said you would have either REALLY questioned this auction or NOT bid at all and that was ONLY because it was a Private Auction.

Ebay NEEDS to get their collective heads OUT of their rearends and make it so that sellers can NOT have Private Auctions.

I would be REALLY upset if I owned this card and had just sold it and then started reading on this forum that people were willing and able to pay MORE fo it but were scared off by the Private Auction. That is expecially so in these economic times.

So, just because eBay allows Private Auctions, they might have just cost the owner of this Magie some money and themselves some more fee related income.

That would suck to be the owner and it would suck to be an eBay shareholder.

Just my opinion,

David

Edited to add;

Not to mention that Private Auctions are ripe for shill bidding, which is why some people are leery to bid on these types of auctions to begin with.

everyone that wanted the card bidded. you put the amount you want to pay and move on...just like in any major auction houses. seller has a ton of feedback. if i was selling the card i wouldn't have made it private but i don't think the seller lost much (if any) money because of it.

Agreed -- private bidders is just like any auction house and in this case was not a red flag of whether the auction was legit. This was a really nice card that sold for what one would expect.

Wow, I thought that card would have gone for 17K at least. Isn't that what it's worth?

since we can't see bidders IDs anymore, aren't all ebay auctions private?

edit to add: Of course still out of my league price-wise but I was watching the auction and thought it was a beautiful card and went for a great price! congrats to the new owner!

winnings and it'll show you but you can't just look at an id and figure out who won. UNLESS.......you know what their current feedback rating is and it matches up. So, it CAN be done to a certain extent.......

Jeff... 17K?? for a 1.5? not when a psa 2 went for 10K... it was a nice 1.5 so it could have gone for 8-9k.. 7k was a good price but not a steal.. for 17k im looking for a psa 3..

theres a psa 2.5 aution going on.. I doubt that will hit 17k

Jamie,

Jeff is referring to a specific Ebay Buy it Now asking price from last Spring. It may have been slightly before you joined the board.

...but since I didn't know he was referring to an earlier high BIN I had no idea what his reference point was.

That's why he's kind of a mis-fit with the rest of us "regular guys."

Damn, nothing gets past you guys. If I had known there was so much interest in a PSA 1 Magie with a torn off back I would have suggested it was worth 25K. Or maybe 30K!

Where's the PSA 2.5 auction going on right now? Not that I could afford it, but I like to watch these auctions.

If I remember it correctly, the thing about the Magie that Jeff mentioned that caught a few eyes was that the Magie was offered/sold here on the BST for one price, and within a very, very short amount of time was re-listed for a significantly greater amount (I mean thousands and thousands and thousands more).

If you pay attention to the letters in the user ID of a given bidder, you can sometimes tell who they are (in conjunction with Tom's suggestion of correlating the feedback score.) I have found that the hidden user names often show several of the letters in the middle, fwiw.

Adam,

You are correct. I was the individual who sold it on the BST in the first place and had resigned myself to having something akin to a heart attack if it sold for that Buy it Now price the following week.

if a card is listed as Private Auction onebay, even if i want/need it, i DO NOT BID....

especially since ebay hides all bids now anyway, there is NO REASON to have a private auction....just shady IMO

they should do away with them, i would bid on more cards and ebay stock will go up....
