Default Bonehead Merkle

Posted By: Darren J. Duet

Would like some input on the players involved in the bonehead play by Fred Merkle in 1908. I know Evers made the put out, but am interested in the pitcher and fielder involved.

I'm putting together bits of my collection to reflect some of the great moments/players of the game to be displayed at our local university library--It's fun.

The list so far---
Tinker to Evers to Chance
Wagner vs. Cobb 1909 World Series
Murderer's Row
Ruth as a Red Sox--The Curse
Connor/Williamson/Ruth
Cravath/Schulte/Doyle/Daubert
Black Sox(including Abe Attell)
Chapman/Mays A baseball death
The Pitchers Johnson/Young/Mathewson/Alexander
The Coaches Mack/McGraw/Jennings/Huggins
Walsh/Chesbro/Waddell/Plank
Speaker & Lajoie

Any ideas for other groupings are appreciated.

Default Bonehead Merkle

Bridwell got the single scoring Moose McCormick. Hofman in center fielded the ball and threw it to Evers. It went wild and was caught by iron man McGinnity who was coaching third. Chance and other Cubs grabbed McGinnity who being over powered, threw the ball in to the stands. Steinfeldt and Tinker went in to the stands, got the ball, Tinker threw it to Evers who stepped on second base.
Hofman was the real hero. Any other centerfielder heads straight to the dressing room with the mob on the field instead of going to get the ball.

Thanks Bob,

Even under the wrong index, you still managed to help a brother out.
