Default Scotch tape removal question.....

Posted By: Tim

I'm wondering if any of you may know of a successful method of removing scotch tape from a baseball card. I have a Bobby Doerr '49 Bowman with remnants of tape on the top front border. Evidently it was taped into a book at one point. Is there a way to remove the ape without damaging the card? I know the card has some minor paper loss on the lower front, but I would like to remove the tape if at all possible. Any suggestions? Thanks![linked image]

There are adhesive removers like "Un du" that might work.
I think I remember a while back people mentioning lighter fluid as well (not sure)

I don't know if it would damage a card - - maybe you should try the stuff on a beater first.... but the stuff does attack adhesive tape pretty good.

Good luck.

Edit; The acetone may discolor the red area if u use to much. Try to keep the acetone on the white border. Oh, don't smoke around the card either or u may have a new set of problems...

I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF CARDS LIKE THIS, CUSTOMERS WILL SEND TO MY BUSINESS TO REMOVE THIS TAPE, WHAT YOU HAVE IS TAPE RESIDUE THAT HAS BLENDED INTO THE PAPER- THIS WILL NOT COME OUT WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE CARD. THANK YOU DICK TOWLE " GONE WITH THE STAIN CO".

Thank you for your suggestions. I didn't pay too much for the card($10), even though it's in pretty nice condition.....except for the tape and minor paper loss(too bad). I have three PSA 8 Doerr '49 Bowmans already, but I thought this one may be worth trying to salvage. I'll probably try the hairdryer method, unless someone has an alternate, better suggestion. Thanks again guys!! Tim.
