Default Question about 1933 Goudey's

Posted By: Joann

Did all of these cards have the red strip at the bottom that say "Big League Chewing Gum"? I see many that don't have the strip but also don't look cut off - full size, plus white border along the bottom intact. Are these reprints?

Thanks,

Joann

Joann: They come both ways. They are not reprints.

Default Question about 1933 Goudey's

Joanne,
Only some of the cards have the "Big League Gum" strip at the bottom. It depends on the card #. I don't have the exact break down, but it is intermingled among the set.

i often wondered if the company left off the add on later series because so many kids cut it off? or did they just mix them in add/no add?

Default Question about 1933 Goudey's

Posted By: Eric Brehm

The 1933 Goudey baseball set was produced in 10 sheets of 24 cards each. The first 7 sheets had the red label across the bottom, and the last 3 sheets did not. I don't know why the design was changed for the last 3 sheets. The 72 cards that don't have the label are #'s 97-99, 107-114, 121-129, 142, and 190-240.

Thanks, Steve F

Default Question about 1933 Goudey's

Posted By: MINE'S MINT

actually both sets of cards display the words Big League Chewing Gum on their fronts.. the difference between the actual 33 goudey set and the canadian issue is the back of the cards.. canadian goudys are commonly reffered to as 1933 World Wide Gum.. and once you see the backs of each issue its very simple to tell them apart..
..canadian..

..regular..

notice the name and card number placement.. and the words "world wide gum co. montreal" and "product of canada".. on the canadian issue.. the u.s. version reads.. "goudy gum co. boston"
