The SGC registry actually designates an 'Authentic' as a .5

Sad. Truly sad. Authentic should not have a numeric grade.

Isn't it really the only way you can give any registry member credit for owning a copy of the card by giving them a .5? I guess I don't see the big deal. It is a real card. If the registry mattered to me (and it doesn't) I could see wanting to get some level of credit for having the card.

I agree with this statement. It's a way of giving the person credit for owning the card...less than an assigned grade, but more than nothing. Seems fair to me

Default Not new

Not new, nor is it a creature.

It's just a number that is only used within the registry.
It means very little to any one who doesn't use the SGC registry but helps those that do.
It allows the numbers to add up to something well, numerical...and assign percentages towards completion.

If you have a SGC graded card and participate in their registry, then you can add these authentic cards into your set. It's that simple.

The "5" does not appear on the flip. I'm curious why that would matter even if it did?

In my opinion "0" should be the number.

I think that's the point, "0" for purposes of how the registry score calculates won't work bc it is the same as missing/not there, etc. As was mentioned earlier the .5 is not on the flip - it's a placeholder function solely.

The much bigger issue issue is how many 8 and 9's should actually have a .5.

I wish this was my biggest issue!! Hey, if someone in the hobby has more fun in the hobby because of a .5, then I say go for it. I love the smell of cardboard in the morning, not napalm or plastic.
