Default Postal Theft

This is why my local postal worker told me not to insure small packages ... it's too obvious that something of value is in there.

I have always wondered if insuring something for more than minimum wasn't just an advertisement for theft.

Problem with postal theft is you have to deal with the postal authorities. Local law enforcement is not going to give a flying you know what.

Default Insurance

I've never bothered with insurance, bacause I always thought you needed a receipt for it to prove the value. Is that true? I remember asking a clerk about it one time, when I was sending a card that I had pulled from a pack, 30 years ago. It might be worth $500 today, but unless you have your receipt for the 25 cents you paid for the card, you aren't getting anything. At least that's what the clerk told me. Is that really true? How do you establish the value of something like that?

Cheers,
Geno

USPS is not set up well for paying out of collectibles. Straight up retail it works OK.

Mine is my wiener dog, Moose. Here he is guarding my safe. This picture was taken early during the pandemic. I had to remove all the gold, silver, cards and guns to make room for the more valuable stuff...toilet paper, Lysol, hand sanitizer, etc.

I never insure the packages, and I always ship overnight with signature required if it's a card of any substantial value. For insurance, I have Collect Insure.

I have CIS insurance, but I also have provided the PO with a declared value when sending via registered mail. I am not sure if that is necessary, but they always ask for it - which definitely makes me a bit uneasy. I worry that if I declare a lower value (instead of the true value), that CIS will reject my claim for full value...

That said, I have never had a problem thus far.
