Default Uncatalogued T213 on ebay

Posted By: TBob

Every once in a while a weird card from one of the almost mainstream sets comes along. I threw one on ebay with a low minimum just to see what the market might bear. Not a lot of people collect the T213 set although the cards of the 2nd series are much prettier than the T206 "cosuins" because of their gloss. Anyway, this is a strange one. It is Turkey Mike Donlin and it is the "Donlin 7 years of .300" card EXCEPT the caption plainly says "Dohlin". I have owned a few Donlins over the years and none looks anything like this. For those of you who like weird variations and printing freaks, this is right up all your alley. because Elliott doesn't want us advertising cards on here except in an appropriate thread, I won't list the URL but you can find it easily using your search on ebay.

TBob:

Neat card. I have never seen a T-card that had anything other than the player's name & their team at the bottom of the card. Are there any other cards that have a "stat" rather than the team designation that you are aware of? Thanks. Patrick.

Patrick- this is the only card I am aware of which uses this type of caption instead of the more common name and team caption. Turkey Mike was an interesting ballplayer. His fondness for the theater has probably kept him from being in the Hall of Fame as he took off a couple of years in his prime to tour on the vaudeville circuit. His stats are still impressive and someday he might get in...

I spoke to another long time collector/dealer today that said there were a handful that had stats like this on the front. I have never seen another myself....regards all...

I used to have most of the T213s and although my memory certainly isn't what it used to be, I certainly can't remember a single other example. Just to be sure I checked Lipset's Encyclopedia and it agrees with me, not one other non-team caption. Your collector/dealer is mistaken.
