Taken in Japan...I see Moe Berg, Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Lou Gehrig? (next to Mack), Jimmie Foxx...not sure I recognize anyone else.

edited to add - taken on a tour of Japan in 1934.

I see Connie Mack, Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx. I would guess it was taken during one of the Tours of Japan. Maybe 1934? I don't see Lefty Grove in the picture anywhere...

You guys are good! Photo is from Moe Berg's estate. You can see the word Moe written above his head. Believe this was annotated by Berg's brother Sam. Also in the picture are Lefty Gomez, Charlie Gehringer and Eric McNair.

Yeah....I should have recognized McNair. I think that's him kneeling far left. I don't see Lefty Grove though.

You're right! The photo listed above has a raised stamp from the Japanese studio where the photo was taken. I wonder if the photo in the Leland's auction was produced from the same negative - I don't see a similar seal.

If these photos came from Moe Berg's estate there is a good chance that there are numerous copies of each photo out there....I'm not sure why, but Berg kept extras of most of his photos. I have seen a whole lot of his photos hitting ebay recently and almost all of them are in lots where there are more than one copy of the photo.

I sold the one above, and it was from Berg's estate.

The one in the current Lelands-Gaynor auction is from the Louisville Slugger archive.

Hope this helps.

Josh Gibson (top row, far left), Jim Thorpe (top row, 2nd from right), Joe Jackson (kneeling, 3rd from right), Ty Cobb (kneeling, 2nd from left).

Very rare to find images of Gibson in Japan, although we've been fortunate to have a few surface on the board recently.

If the photo was taken in Japan, I'd be surprised if Lefty O'Doul wasn't in the mix ... is that him to the right of Gehrig?
