Default 336 Photos of the 2014 National posted on SportsAntiques.com

http://sportsantiques.com/2014nat1.htm
Well it's August 24th...the National was over on August 3rd...and I have now posted all the photos I took on my website SportsAntiques.com , link above...I wasn't going this year and I went to email a group of friends to let them know I wouldn't be there...and a buddy of mine, since he was going, John Gennantonio shot back..."what if I paid for your airline ticket with my air miles?"...So that pursuded me and I swung into action four days before the National...got a last minute plane ticket and room... and off I went...and guess what....turned out to be one of my best National's...

 photo NewsboyFBApron_zpseb71c7f8.jpg

I got five pieces...and very happy with all of them. I've gone to the National before and bought stuff that was OK but not wild about...and even last year I hardly bought anything....but this year each of the five pieces I really like...You'll see them all in the photos...see one above...first apron I ever bought...Enjoy the photos...I'll post a brief overview on my site later....but for now I'll get the photos up for everyone to see...-Carlton

Thanks! You did a great job this year and I dig the rugby bottle. Any idea what the seller was asking for the outrageous "Hot Ball" caddie label (?) or sign you pictured? I've only seen a couple of the vertical ones like the one I have (needs work) and never that one. It has superior "presence"..........

Default Thanks Much

Thanks all for the encouraging words...glad you enjoy the photos...

1880nonsports, thanks yeah that Rugby bottle was a great find for me....I've been going to bottle shows for years looking for something like that...so I know exactly how rare it is...On that "Hot Ball" caddie label...doesn't ring a bell...send me a link to the photo and I'll tell you what I can....

Chris, It was a pleasure meeting you...

By the way FYI...I just added six photos...of a Peerless football and a Goldsmith basketball advertising poster...somehow they got left out...you can see them right above "Carlton's Pickups" on page 7

Hey Carlton, once again a great job! I was in the hall a few hours before you and I didn't see half that stuff. Thanks for your great work, looking forward to the story.

Thanks Bill...great seeing you and the southern posse...Sure wish Chris Galbreath and Herbert Thomas the Third would have set up like they use to...Yeah that was quite a National...I featured Doug and Diane McElwain of Sport & Spool Antiques since they had such a nice looking booth and to welcome them for the first time...but for me Keith Javic's booth was my favorite, see photos below...When I first got in somehow intuition drew me right to his booth like GPS and I was on overload...all those incredible turn of the century ivy league jerseys up high on manikins...there was just great stuff everywhere you looked...and you know you got all this competition swarming around like sharks so you have to think fast...I recall later you even mentioned as much I grabbed onto that Rugby bottle and wasn't letting go while I tried to get my bearings...man that was the way a National is suppose to be!!!

1880nonsports, OK I think I found it...see below...that was in the Hunt Auctions booth...not actually sure if it was for sale or on display for an upcoming auction...and now that you mention it, it is quite something...I thought it was a framed poster...To me it looked advanced and expensive when I saw it and I just glossed over it and didn't even ask the price...I see they had a pack of the tobacco next to it so all the stronger....and that's kind of the way it is at a National...you're seeing so much stuff sometimes you overlook things...plus on top of it all I'm sizing up shots so you're on overload...I'm famous for seeing something great and my mind is racing and I'm all into the piece...and I walk away and completely forget to take a photo of it!!!

Thanks for all the pictures and thanks, especially, for the recap of the Spalding's Foot Ball box. I don't personally believe this, but some folks say if you WIN an eBay auction you are just a sucker who paid more than anyone else in the world would pay for a particular item. It's always easier for me to come in third!

Thanks a lot for the kind words about my booth Carlton! It was nice chatting with you, and I am glad you ended up with the Rugby bottle. When I first picked it up, I thought of you first, so I am glad that is where it ended up. Great job with your photo coverage too.

It was nice to meet you, Carlton. I agree - Keith J's booth was a great one. I also really enjoyed William P's booth that he shared with a buddy (yikes-I forgot his name! my sincere apologies). It's amazing what William is able to do with his bat creations, and that super-glove! I apologize to these guys for not coming by at the end of the show and trying to deal for one of their 100+ yr-old gloves, but it would have exceeded my sales! (and have been worth it)

Carlton -
Amazing photos, as always. Thank you for posting them!

One item caught my eye that I knew I had read about before. It was the 1896 Football Calendar pictured near the top of Page 5 of your photos, in the right column (it's in the lower left corner of the photo frame).

I keep an archive at home of informative articles I've read over the years or pieces that I'm particularly interested in and l flipped through it last night.

Sure enough, I found the article I remembered, and it turns out that you wrote it! It's from the June 13, 2003 copy of SCD. Hopefully the scans can be read.

Below is your photo, with the scans I attached of the article you wrote. I wonder what booth this was from or who is selling it?

Thanks!

Hey Brad, Good eye...Thanks for posting photos of the SCD story...that was a long time ago!...SCD edited out the original ending for their print version...which of course I think took away from the story...above is a link to the full version...Yeah John and Priscilla Ross had that...
