Welcome:

You might want to post your current list from the other thread here, it will probably be a good start in opening the lines of communication with fellow Net 54 members.

Default welcome!!

Welcome to the board HOF AUTO Rookies collector. As I mentioned on the phone it's usually best to treat our hobby as a marathon and not a sprint .
There are certainly some autographed card collectors on our board, however since we are mainly pre-war on here (there are other areas for post war and memorabilia) there might not be too many folks collecting only Rookie cards with autos on them. I think it's difficult enough to find any pre-war cards with autos let alone their rookies. I have a few cards with autos and here is one of them...though the auto is from a different pre-war player. Shown before but we do have quite a few new members....

Chase M110 signed by Chief Meyers...

Some of these may not be true Rookie cards, but if you can find an earlier signed card of these players more power to ya!

Leon, how can they certify that as a Chief Myers auto!?

Here is my current list, I think I'm maybe missing around 25-50 names:

1954 Topps Ernie Banks
1948 Bowman Yogi Berra, x3
1983 Donruss Wade Boggs, card graded PSA 91957 (sold)
1957 Topps Jim Bunning
1967 Topps Rod Carew
1965 Topps Steve Carlton
1975 Topps Gary Carter x2, 1 mini card graded PSA 9
1933 Goudey Mickey Cochrane (possibly may be the only one)
1933 Goudey Joe Cronin
1933 Goudey Bill Dickey, card graded PSA 5!
1938 Goudey Heads Up Bobby Doerr
1938 Goudey Heads Up Bob Feller
1948 Bowman Bob Feller x8, PSA 8, 7, 6, 5 the cards are graded those numbers and is signed (highest grades in existence), PSA 2 auto
1935 Diamond Stars Rick Ferrell (not a rookie, but close)
1969 Topps Rollie Fingers, x3
1951 Bowman Whitey Ford
1959 Topps Bob Gibson
1933 Goudey Carl Hubbell
1951 Bowman Monte Irvin
1951 Topps Red Backs Monte Irvin
1933 Goudey Travis Jackson
1966 Topps Fergie Jenkins x4, one from McAlister Collection PSA
1954 Topps Al Kaline, x2
May have a George Kell...
1949 Bowman Bob Lemon
1933 Goudey Freddy Lindstrom
1978 Topps Paul Molitor x4
1948 Bowman Stan Musial, x2
1964 Topps Phil Niekro/Phil Roof dual signed
1966 Topps Jim Palmer (sold)
1962 Topps Gaylord Perry
1933 Goudey Sam Rice
1949 Bowman Robin Roberts
1933 Goudey Red Ruffing
1968 Topps Nolan Ryan/Kooseman dual signed, 1 with just Ryan
1948 Bowman Red Schoendienst
1933 Goudey Joe Sewell x2
1948 Bowman Enos Slaughter
1949 Bowman Duke Snider
1966 Topps Don Sutton
1933 Goudey Bill Terry
1940 Play Ball Arky Vaughan (possibly the rarest one I own, died in the 50's)
1961 Topps Billy Williams
1975 Topps Robin Yount
1983 Topps Tony Gwynn, card graded PSA 7
1948 Bowman Warren Spahn x2
1965 Tony Perez

Some aren't rookies like the Arky Vaughan, but I'm not complaining, I'm just happy to have his auto. I have a signed 33 Goudey of Comorosky which is neat because he passed in '51

Not sure if some of these are rookies, and they certainly are not as impressive as most of the cards shown...but it's more my speed anyway.

I have never considered myself an elite collector, never had the budget for it, but being on this site has made me feel pretty small with regard to what I have and what others have. We have one or both...long long time collectors who scored some great stuff when it was much more obtainable (and affordable) or one's with nice disposable income!

I have some others, but not scanned.

Curt- those are great cards. Love the top ones with the bears. I am a bit saddened when someone responds that they feel less than great about our super hobby. As niced as any of our collections are there is almost always someone with something better. Even the very best collections in the world are missing some things. The key is to enjoy what you collect. Also, many folks aren't of the addicted nature, as some board members are, and actually act responsibly when buying cards (myself excluded as I know I am overboard and a lost cause ) ...Once again, love seeing those cards you posted and thanks so much for sharing!! That's what this board is all about, imo.

Milkit, looking to move the Aaron by anychance? Trying to pick up a 54 Aaron signed and a 51 Mays. Like your Goudey Jackson too, nice looking card, love the Goudey's and T206's signed...anyone know if theirs any 1887 A & G's signed? Any of those exist? Those would be remarkable!

There is a Mack OJ, but no A&Gs. You can see a scan of the Mack on my website.

Thanks guys - I picked it up at a Sun-Times show in Chicago from an autograph dealer probably about 5 years ago; asked him if he had any autographed Pre-WWII cards. He showed me some goudey's, playball's and then saw this card and said he had just gotten it a couple of months ago, but didn't figure it would be real desirable since it was a T207. I snatched it up as soon as he was done talking... :-)

I am a member of two other sites that have guys who collect HOF rookies.

Try these two sites:
http://www.psacard.com/
www.sportscollectors.net (paid site, but well worth the $15 a year)

This guy named TheNavarro has the best collection you will ever see. He posts on both sites. There is also a guy named JSWieton who has an amazing collection as well. Hope this helps.

Cooptown,

Thanks for the compliment. I really enjoy signed rookie cards, not just baseball, but in all fields.

Leon,

I didn't mean it as a negative. I don't surf many of these boards at all, really just this site now and The Bench. This site and that one are miles apart with regard to membership and collecting interests. I bridge that gap somewhat, but I have really only been "seriously" collecting since the 90s and that was for things I liked, not necessarily old or valuable. Prior to that it was a kids game with a kids budget and w/o the foresight to know what would be a better buy, some of those 80s boxed sets or some nice signed vintage cards. I bought my first baseball cards in 1978 at age 9. If only...

I just meant that I am in awe of many of the items posted here and know that trying to obtain similar items now would be extremely costly. I suspect some were obtained long ago and tucked safely into collections and that others are obtained recently by those who have the money to do so.

I have not been on the site long, but I am curious as to the make up of the primary contributing members as to age, profession and such. I always daydream about what an amazing collection one could amass if they were wealthy, as in the multimillions. If Bill Gates collected baseball cards for example, he could pretty much own it all as long as it came up for sale and he caught wind of it.

Sorry Mike,

I check email fairly infrequently. It's 95% spam these days. I didn't see it yet.

I actually got those for my 2 boys. They are in my collection for the moment (to preserve them), but they belong to them. I actually asked for personalization, but he either missed it or was not willing.

The card is from the 1984 Smokey Bear Padres set, an easy find and just after Harvey was elected to the Hall, I mailed those off for him to sign. It took a little under 2 months and he returned them signed.

It's worth a shot if anyone wants to try. His mail has probably increased since the HOF election, so hopefully he is still a willing signer.
