Default What is Your Favorite Color on a "Vintage" Card?

Posted By: Lee Behrens

Hey Guys this is a fun thread so don't rip into me. I personally have a passion for the pink background in the T206s. Let me know what color thrills you.

let me know if you like a different color in a PSA or a SGC holder. All cards look so much nicer in SGC holders.

Thanks

Lee

on e-cards because its so unexpected looking

but the orange/yellow horizon on T-213 backgrounds always gets to me. The scenes behind the players on those is really nostalgic and the colors vibrant.

With all of the other posts last night I was a little leery of opening this one. But to my surprise it is relevant!

I like brown. 1911 and 1912 Zeenuts. T207. C46.

I also like black and white. Most of the other zeenuts. Most of my postcards.

I'm sure this thread will get some action as I know a number of board members do have color preferences.

If I have to pick a single background color then I have a preference for the T206 yellow. Looks great to me with a bit of that backshadow, such as on the Johnson protrait, or w/o the shadow, like the Joss. Really sets off those portraits.
If I can expand the topic to any style background, then the T201s have always been one of my favorites.

Lee, great topic for a thread. Thanks.

I almost spit my breakfast out when I read the thread about computer stores and vintage baseball cards. Classic.

Favorite background color by a landslide is Yellow. Especially ofset by the black in an SGC case.

The point being, I think, that if every poster were given the latitude that Peter has given himself, this board would be a disaster.

I'm pretty much not a guy who gets involved in message board BS until it becomes absolutely intolerable to me. It has become absolutely intolerable. Peter, in my opinion, does not belong on this board. It was one thing when he first came here and was typing out expressions like "laughing out loud" and was a true newbie, trying to learn about prewar cards. It was cute then. It's a completely different thing now, after all this time - the daily dose of insipid yammerings is forcing me to have to dig through posts that are completely irrelevant to the subject matter of this board. It gives me a headache.

Every time I see a good thread get bumped to the bottom of the page by another spate of moronitude, I get just a tiny bit more irritated. And I cannot figure out why Peter is still here, since he posts more than everyone else and adds nothing.

Peter, please. Share some piece of information with us. Explain to us whether Henry Johnsons are E121s or W575-1s. Teach us how scarce the Newsboy ad backs are. Show us a scan of your latest prewar find. Either that, or please stop eating the good threads.

-Al

I couldnt agree more Al. He obviously gets a kick out of making people mad over the computer.Hes not here to learn about cards like he claims,if he was,he would actually listen to the people who could give the most information to him. If I thought for one second he was serious I wouldn't mind him,he would have to post less of course,or at least think out his posts. This guy isn't serious in the least bit.He is just here to start trouble and I dont think its right that one person like that can take over a board and basically litter it with useless information that leads that people who have been here forever getting mad.

Could you please edit out the O/T posts to this thread and get back on topic? You can have your say on the "I've had enough" thread. Thanks

Sorry Steve,I've never edited one of my posts in my life, not even for a spelling mistake like I did above when I changed "hear" to "here" but forgot to change "that" to "to" so it would make more sense. I'm not going to start editing posts now either.

I will say that my favorite background is usually red,for example i think the red t206 Cobb portrait is so much nicer than the green one. My favorite cards are old judges though so its hard to say thats a background color

Same here - I made my post quite a bit before the "I've Had Enough" thread was even started, and feel it was very much on-topic.

I will, however, answer the question, tongue-in-cheek as it was intended to be: I love the purplish background on the 1933 Goudey Charlie Gehringer, and I love sunset backgrounds on T206s. I also love the rich-colored backgrounds on National League T205s, and the stormclouds on the N162 Kelly.

-Al

Edited for clarity.

Pink is pretty cool mostly because in today's day and age you just will not see another baseball card with a pink background.

What a novel idea: a thread about baseball cards! Gotta go with red as my favorite color on a card. Can't imagine CJ's or T210s any other way.

(Stengel was photo-enhanced so as not to sicken high-end collectors).

Howzabout a vintage card shop and karaoke bar?

Dan, I'm confident enough in my masculinity to possess that pink Chase (and a number of 1958 Topps pink-backgrounded cards as well).

I don't mean to sound like an old man, but wouldn't today's modern baseball cards be so much more popular if they were simple like the 33 Goudeys or T206s? Just check out that Chase and the Gehringer: what is a cooler-looking card than those? Some shiny photo action shot?

I like flesh-colored backgrounds because it makes the players' skin look invisible.

The T210 Stengel is, in actuality, a PSA3. The photo was doctored on behalf of high-grade collectors so as to avert nausea.
