Where was Jeff Thursday night???

And Michael is a great guy to dine with. He is like me- he eats everything. We had raw oysters, a fresh chunk of roquefort cheese, and grand marnier. What a feast!

I'm very sorry I missed the dinner. I had a week like no other. Bizarre to say the least. When are we doing it again? And I'm dying for a steak next time -- oysters?

Barry, are you out in Noyac at all this summer?

51 years young, had the set over 60% done in mid-late '90's when I sold it to go after Cracker Jacks and T207's...now back up to about 260 cards..

Vintage cards prices will never crash. Ups and downs undoubtedly. But as long as baseball is the National Game (which will never change!!) legends like Babe, Ty, Honus, etc. will only grow...and there will always be guys with plenty of $$ to jump on them...

We have a tenant living there until the end of October, so no, we won't be out this summer (unless she bolts on us). We're trying to decide if we want to continue renting or get it back. It's a toss up.

You can't go to Luger's on short notice. You usually need to make a reservation at least a month in advance, unless things are a little slow there.

If you can get a reservation there because of a platinum card I will be more than a little surprised. See if you can get a 6:45 (they seat only 45 minutes after each hour). That's of course the time everybody wants.

And they don't accept credit cards except their own- it's cash only. If you show up with VISA only, two large waiters will drag you into the back and beat you up.

dave f.-

i'm a little dissapointed how you listed your "tuff factory 42" PSA 6 on eBay...

you made it sound like it is the piedmont 42 (yours is sweet caporal)...

misleading.

OK, back to steak dinners. maybe the following week for lugers?

You can always get a very early or very late seating- but that 6:45 slot is a toughie. The following week my auction closes, that Thursday, so please any day except the 28th.

I would ask for a table for 6 or 8, and the first ones to respond get in. We can't keep changing the number, and the group seems to be getting a little smaller.

OK, amex does not hold a table at Luger's (like it does every night at many many restaurants in the city)...i am getting the full list from them, of which places we will be able to get a table, without a hitch...

Luger's is a 4-6 week wait to get a table (Barry, you were correct).

Michael...
I asked the board last week about the Sweet Caporal Factory 42's specifically. From what I gathered here and on T206musuem it draws a "slight"...maybe 5-10% premium. Which if the card is worth $200..no, doesn't come to alot...maybe $10-15.

Basically I listed it being a Factory 42 in the subtitle, and then mentioned in the paragraph it may be something "back collectors" are interested in. Don't know what I did wrong.

I also am to the point of not really caring who is mad at me, or dissapointed with me or anything else. My getting mad or frustrated over a freaking computer screen really isn't worth it in the grand scheme of things or even in the facet of my own household and family.

Edited to say....is it rare or scarce? Um, no. But neither is any other T206 listed on ebay outside of a Broadleaf or Uzit, etc. I've seen more than one board member here list a Chance yellow "rare" or "scarce". Just amazes me sometimes...oh well, off to grill for the family.

dave- you took this the wrong way, i'm not pist, i could care less, really...i got excited, when i saw "Rare Factory 42, 4th Dist. NC" in the subtitle...as i need to upgrade my PSA 3 Piedmont 42...then i openind the link, and saw a Sweet Caporal...that's what was dissapointing. furthermore, when you had it listed in the B/S/T page, you merely listed it as "sweet cap fact 42"...not "rare", like you did on eBay...can you see my point?

i'm not mad at you, as you shouldn't be mad at me. we have conversed many times, and i value your input to the board...don't take it the wrong way.

p.s. i honestly wish you the best on the auction...this will actually get you some free press on the card it was all in my plan, to help you out...be well, no hard feelings.

I think Luger's you can get into often times on the day of the dinner. Sort of like Broadway show tickets. That being said, with a group of 6-8 it may be tougher. How about Morton's or Sparks? Both are right near the 4 train -- whichever will take us can be the one we go to - and they're like the two best in Manhattan located near Grand Central for anyone coming in (we've still got to get Frank in from LI and Al from NJ).

I have scheduling problems from now into mid/late July but if there's ever a dinner at Sparks after that I'd be interested. Sparks is my favorite steakhouse (on the East Coast but I have never been to Luger's as their lack of acceptance for my corporate Amex/no Brooklyn clients makes it tough. Metropolitan Grill in Seattle is my West Coast choice as I know you're all wondering

Nap Lajoie
Pete Browning
Lave Cross
Willie Keeler
Ed Delahanty

Those were the ones that were on all my teams. My first T206 was Delahanty but I didn't realize it wasn't Ed. And I remember thinking the card was normal size like todays cards because of the scan. But then I got it and saw how small it was and fell in love with them.

You have good taste.
That's a pretty good looking group of ball players.
You show me good instincts, and vintage knowledge, that's more than I can say for a few investors.
Keep up the good work, and maintain that attitude.
Keep it as a HOBBY, and you're going to enjoy the HOBBY.
Keep us posted, and let us know as to how you're doing.

Bought my first T206 in 1980.
Member of the 500 club. Actually I completed all that I intend to complete a few years ago including at least one of each of the brands, etc.

Right now I have about 70 cards of the set but that is buying off birthday and report card money. I am gettnig a job this summer so I should really build it up a lot. I have a few of the mid-high BV cards in the set in nice conditions but no cobbs or big trains yet.

I purchased my first T206 when I was 12. It was a Josh Clark Columbus in NM condition - I think from Windy City Sportscards (?).

Am 35 years old now and am 6 cards short of completion - the Big 4 plus O'Hara and Demmitt St. Louis variations - always looking for these cards in any condition.

70 T206's and you're only 16?
That's a better start than me.

In 1985, I was 54 years old, when I bought my first T206 card.
The way that happened was that I was at a show and I spotted a T206 Herzog NY.
I said to myself, ... heck, pop is a Giant fan from McGraw's time, I think he'll like that.
He did, ... and then I did, by collecting the three teams from the NY area. ... the rest is history.

Harrison, you're ahead of my game by a ton.
Proud of you.

Keep it up, and keep it a HOBBY.

Joe P.

Thanks for the encouragement (sp?). I still buy some of the shinny stuff but i definately enjoy the T206's more. The only thing that stinks is the only show that has pre-war by where I live is the Hofstra show. I'm always looking to buy .

It doesn't matter if you collect vintage, or the shinny stuff.
The main thing is that you enjoy it.
That's the bottom line.

My last memory of the Hoftra show is from Memorial day weekend 1990.

As I'm parking my car in the parking lot, I spot Lipset and Beckett leaving the show.
I called out to Lew, he hears me and looks my way.
I yelled out: "I got another Doyle".

His look spoke volumes.
I froze in my tracks, and I knew that there was going to be trouble in River City. ... but that's a story for another time.

Joe P.
