Default Ten years ago.....

I was hunting T207's to finish my set.
And now I am haunted by the price of
Cycle backs......wish I had them back. :/

Where were your collecting pursuits ten years ago?

10 years ago I would have been bent on my 1954T set and working on a couple other 50s sets. It was about 10 years ago I bought my first Goudey and it became it a gateway card to what I collect now...hadn't ever even held a CJ yet!

10 years ago I started my first prewar set (33 Goudey), all the while herding sheep as my day job!

10 years ago, I was putting an end to my daily drinking, and taking that next step into becoming a mature adult(well, semi-mature in my case), due to the birth of my oldest son. And had just moved out of my first apartment and into my first house. I was less than a year away from purchasing my 1st t206. It was just a semi-drunk impulse buy on ebay, that wound up finally drawing me back into the hobby for good.. The ten year anniversary should be coming up sometime next winter..

Default Ten years ago.....

Ten years ago I had 3 daughters and a wife in college. it was a stressful time in my life, and a time when, regretfully; I passed on a number of opportunities to purchase high value cards. Today, after three weddings, I'm retired and happy minus all the key, expensive cards in the sets I so much love.

Ten years ago I was on a collecting hiatus which lasted from 2002-2007 while I was in the prime of my 20's, partying, finishing college and chasing women. Got married in 2007, settled down, started a family, then back to the hobby I loved as a kid.

Ten yrs ago I was in a totally different place...type collecting was my main goal...but I was getting frustrated! I had a nice T206 back run up to lenox...I had maybe 3 e94's...and I had 1 miller big glove card...one of the toughest which set me on my way!
Additionally I was 15 lbs lighter...and I got laid a lot more than I do now!

ten years ago I was a sophmore in college, with almost no focus on collecting at all, every once in a while I'd buy a few packs of modern football hoping for a decent Auto insert...

about 4 years later I got bored with modern cards in general, bought my first pre-war card (Sanella Ruth) and from there it's basically been HOF Auto/Pre-war.

Still don't have any particular type/sets I'm going after, just dabble in a little of everything, whatever strikes my eye in my price range

10 years ago I was going to engineering school full time and working as a welder to pay for it. I wasn't collecting cards at the time, I was in a coin phase. Owned some of the nicest draped bust half dimes. Also bought a lot of silver and gold bullion (boy did that pay off).

Peter: What is this "getting laid" of which you speak?

Ten years ago I was living in Honolulu, just retired from a career as a Land Surveyor. I had been into "vintage" card collecting about three or four years by that point but it mostly was the fifties Topps cards I collected as a kid. I was just starting to work back in time by assembling thirties and forties sets such as '33 & '34 Goudey, '41 Play Ball, and Sports Kings. Eventually I would venture back to the good stuff, tobacco cards, M116s, Zeenuts, T210s and the like, but ten years ago it was still very esoteric territory for me. Did almost all my acquiring via eBay back when they hadn't yet forked up the business model. Made my first post on Net54 in October of 2003, went to my first card show, the Anaheim National in 2006, have grown a pretty decent collection over the years and made a lot of good friends. It's a great hobby in spite of all the douchebaggery and just the thing in which to happily while away my dotage.

Ten years ago I was mostly collecting racing bicycles. Building up a nice collection before they got too expensive. Pretty exciting in some ways, just like baseball cards in the early 80's - Not much information, and great stuff available for very reasonable prices.

I was still into cards, bought a few here and there.

Ten years ago I was still collecting type cards. Our board was on the old platform and giving us some issues...and I had a few more hairs on my head (but not a lot).
