Default Web Hosting Recommendations Help

All I want is to have a page with a specific domain name that will allow me to have pages dedicated to cards.

But, I can't get a straight answer on how many pages the various pricing structures offer.

For instance, lets say I want one page dedicated to T206's and off that one page I want a sub page for each T206 team that is represented in my collection. And so on for other series.

Does it look like this is what I will get using this offer: http://www.ipage.com/ipage/index.html

That is just one hosting company that I'm considering. They have a sale that ends in a couple of hours and their reviews are as good as any service I've looked at. I've never used WordPress, but it looks like it builds additional pages within a page. I thought this was going to easy, but I'm basically lost.
One of the salesmen put it this way, when I was asking questions, "Well you can't learn how to drive a car, until you own one". In other words, buy the service then figure out how to use it.

Can anyone recommend the best way to go about building a website and finding the right hosting company. Any caveats to watch out for?

Thanks,

Default for a static site

You should be fine for a site using that or any of the other easily obtainable ones. I use Yahoo webhosting and it's ok...We use a hosting company that specifically knows this software for this forum. They are out of the UK. Most of them should be able to handle far more that anything you can throw at them. And all of the prices should be fairly cheap....under $20 a month for sure....regards

Thanks Leon, I guess I can't go too wrong at $2.95 per month with an anytime money back guarantee. I wonder if I should go long term, in case this is a teaser rate that goes up substantially after the first paid term is up?

It seems I can pay for 12, 24 or 36 months at once.

I don't plan on using it for commerce, just a show and tell, so it should be easy to set up, even for me.

The hard part was scanning all the cards....I hope

They can't give a page count because the rates are usually based on how much disc space the pages take up. A single page could be as simple as one word of text, or could have hundreds of images, links and tiny programs. (Ebay)

Many hosting places have a website builder that lets you construct a fairly basic site like you're looking at doing. The results are usually a bit weak graphically but get the job done. Fancier stuff takes a program to build the site. More money but better looking results. Making sure it gets noticed by search engines, or displays well in different browsers or more elaborate features like the way the SGC registry is setup to show the cards scrolling across the top and click to enlarge takes more specialised and expensive help.

I'm supposedly working on a similar one for my bike collection, but I've been very lazy about actually doing it.

Thanks for chiming in Steve. There won't be much content and I will want to keep it simple, but not too boring.

What the hey, I just signed up for two years. That should give me enough time to figure this all out

I can see that the tools they give you to start with are pretty basic, but I'll plug away to see what I can accomplish. Of course for more money, I'm sure the tools get better

Anyway, I'm committed so I'll see how steep the learning curve for this stuff is. Should be interesting and hopefully a learning experience.

I'll be looking for feedback once I get something basic to my goals up and running.

Thanks,
